Thanks for all the wonderful answers i have gotten already and it was actually referring to a family argument we are having because my little cousin who is 13 had sex with a guy thats 22 and i personally think her age is incredibly too young and my friends dont agree with my perspective.

It's appropriate to lose your virginity when YOUR ready to lose it. Not when your boyfriend nags you into it... or when all your friends have already lost theirs and they are making fun of you... or after a specific AGE that society or friends/family is telling you.

If you are in a relationship with someone that you care about... and that person cares about you... and you have been together long enough to really know each other... and you're BOTH ready... that's when it's reasonable to lose your virginity. Oh... and after you have done all the appropriate research about STDs and pregnancy and how to protect yourself against these.

Be absolutely CERTAIN it won't end up being something you regret. It should be a lovely memory - just like your first kiss.

Ideally, it is reasonable when you are married. However....regardless if you are married or not...you need to make sure you love the person. I would wait until you've have a few boyfriends and have been on your own for a while (meaning don't do it while your in high school). My reason in saying that is....as a teen in high school you do not have the proper life experience to handle the responsibility of sex. There is pregnancy (are you or your friends on birth control-are you ready to be a parent), STD (not all of them are curable and he or his ex may have lied about having an STD and it does happen) your reputation (are you ready to handle someone calling you a s*** or a w**** how would you handle that regardless if it's true or not), rape (if you said no and he forced you what would you do and would you really do it) and hurt feeling and false hope (the guy said he loved you to get you into bed, can you handle that)

Yes, all of these things happen to adult women all the time. However, as a teenager are you ready to take all that on? Wait until you have some life experience. For example: your ability to judge character, how soon after meeting someone do you sleep with them, he said he loved you but how long have you been dating, how many girl friends has he had in the past and for how long. All of these things can make a difference. The big thing is you have to be ready. In high school most teens want to do what the others are doing (no matter what it is). Once you graduate you will realize how silly you were back then (I did).

Now there are people that don't care about everything I just mentioned. Some people say sex is just sex and that's it. My question to you is what to you think? If you think sex is just sex then there is noting I can say to you except to please be careful. Please think about what I said. Okay...and tell your friend to be careful too.

There really isn't a universal reasonable time. The best time would be when you are in a stable relationship and mature enough to deal with the consequences of your actions.

Adding sex to a relationship, especially a relationship between two young and inexperienced people adds a whole other angle that you can't really anticipate. Feelings become more complicated and deepen. There is always risk involved. Risk of broken hearts risk of unplanned pregnancy and risk of disease.

If you are not able to figure out how you would deal with each one of these possible scenarios if they actually happened then it would be pretty fair to say you are not reasonably ready to lose your virginity.

Good for you for trying to sort out your feelings now rather than later. A very smart move.

I wouldnt say there is a reasonable time to lose it. Its not like there is a deadline to make. But I would have to say at least be mature enough to know the consequences and if something should happen be adult enough to be responsible for your actions. Young girls usually do it due to peer pressure from other people girls trying to fit in. Or from there BF who just want to get some and they will say almost anything to sweet talk them. I would say be with some one you love not just puppy love like in middle school. But you guys want to continue your relationship to the next level. There are risk to having s*x. Like STD's and getting pregant. Try to be closer to 20 and not closer to15. Kids shouldn't be having kids. Having s*x can be a very imotional thing and could scar young girls with a bad emotional experience. There is no right or perfect time to take that step. Its up to the couple who want to do that in the end, not someone else. Just be safe and rememeber for every action there is a reaction. Im not going to preach cause thats not my job and Im not anyones mother.

Sorry I'd have to agree THE MOST REASONABLE time is when you are MARRIED. Why? well, if you married the person you trust, know, and respect them. That's what is needed most when you decide to have a personal relationship w/another person.
Most women that I know that did not wait wish they had "saved" themselves for that special person they marry. I know I did and will never regret that decision.

When your old enough to afford to raise a kid on your own (since you run the risk of getting pregnant, and yes it COULD happen on the first time) without having to stick it in daycare. But the best time is when you're married.

for some strange reason teens think that losing it, is great, it means ure grown. but many guys like to tip toe around the real reason they want to sleep with u, and that is that they can hopefully take it away and brag about it to their friends ( i personally knew a guy that did that) but ure risking soo much, like getting pregnant, & bad rep. i wouldn't mind waiting till i got married. chances are i will get bad ratings but thats how i was raised, 2 b different from teens. and respect myself as a lady.

Your friend should lose her virginity on her honeymoon after she gets married. Give her a worse case senario : you lose your virginity, get std, or lose your virginity and left with a baby that she has to care for by herself.

There is no set age when it is good to lose your virginity. But when you are truly in love with someone who you want to spend the rest of your life with.
