That was 14 centuries ago people, and today, if you look at your own society, you see priests molesting young children, i dont see anyone raise any questions about that....

i don't know either. because it is only recently that people stopped getting married when they were that young. my great-grandmother who is christian by the way got married around the age of 16 and her mother also christian got married at 13 or 14 and had 13 children and my great-grandmother is only 82 or something. so to me people only recently started waiting until they were 50ish to have children. so now it is a bad thing, but my great- grandmother doesn't think it is a big deal. i don't think it was a huge issue. becuase he married her when she was very young, but she didn't live in his house until she 10 and they didn't have sex until she got her period which was around 13. and many girls are having sex at this age anyway, so what's the problem? i don't see one. at my old middle school there were many 13 years old that were sexually active, w/ more than one person, so what's wrong w/ being married?

1) Muhammed is the founder of a whole religion. Although I think the modern tendency to place such people in the impossible position of being perfect to all people (even our idea of God can't do that), it is a very different thing from being a single priest in a religion.

2) The priests noted were fined, jailed and are actively sought to caught and arrested even today. More questions were raised than there were priests by many times.

3) Some people forget that marriage was early for all people back then, and that the betrothal of Mary was fairly early as well, but that Joseph did not take her physically to wife until much latter, which is why her pregnancy almost had him set her aside (return her to her family as an unfaithful woman).

It was only the intervention of an angel that saved her.

Actually that marriage turned into an issue right after Muhammads death, when Aisha started to openly criticize the Khalif Ali (Muhammads spiritual successor). She even gathered an army and tried to attack him, but he prevailed and tried to resolve the issue. but you don't seem to be questioning facts i see. You only are out for slander....so let me share some points with you.

1. early marriage is an ancient arabic and semitic tradition. If you have ever known a beduin arab girl of 14 you will understand that they are far more educated in life than your average 25 year old american or european girl.

2. the age limit of 18 is a relatively new thing, and does not take into account the differences between people. don't forget that laws are just guidelins so that we can keep our society in some kind of order. they are not unchangeable truths (like gravity e.g.).

3. a priest takes a vow of celibacy. Muhammad never took one, and he always urged his followers to marry and have families. he went so far as to say "He who doesn't marry is not of me"

4. molesting is not equal to marrying.

In Love and Light.

people don't know the facts. They make up their own in order to have something to complain about. Studies have shown that their is no way to positively identify her age or the time that their marriage was consumated..... b/ the age of puberty is steadily becoming younger in our culture we might assume she was younger than she was.....

People need a scapegoat, and right now Islam has assumed that place. It is a sad fact, but something that Muslims are going to have to deal with

To Andre:
She was not six, she was about 10 years old.
Children matured much faster back then, they weren't sissies and brats (like they are today).
Boys and girls were considered men and women by age 7.

AND, they didn't even consummate the marriage until she was like 19.

People get touchy about Pedophilia.

If that is hard to understand, maybe a physiologist is needed.
