No. The payload of the A10 cant be surpassed by a "do-it-all" aircraft. (So I agree with the person below me.) Besides just missile/smart/dumb bomb armament, no other aircraft carries the 7 barreled gatling. (which the A10 was built around--- not the aircraft built then a gun added- but built AROUND the gun) which alone can decimate tanks.

The A10 has 1 role in life. Close Air Support- Tankbuster. No fighting, no CAP, Tankbusting only. Thats what makes it so good at what it does. Its pure.

No. The F-35 is a stand off ground attack fighter. Chances are ground support will never see the aircraft overhead. This reduces the chance the F-35 of getting shot down so it would need less armor, but then again it wouldn't be a close air support craft at all.

in my years of calling in CAS, i never used a A-10, i only used Harrier jest, which primary mission is close air support for US Marines, and the FA/18, which is also primarily used for close air support for Marines.Nothing will ever compare to the FA/18, as they always work in pairs, so amount of ordnance was never an issue, plus there was always a second team standing by..

It is faster then the A10 but does not carry near the payload....no its not better overall but in some circumstances it can provide close air support when troops need it in a hurry.

Nope. But the A-10 can't VTOL, go supersonic, fly stealth or engage top of the line enemy air superiority fighters and win. Each has its strengths and weaknesses. Each was design for a different mission.

nay; it is sturdiness of construction, amount of payload delivered and ability to operate from unpaved airfields that makes an ideal CAS plane. None of these is the f35's feature.

No the A-10's 30mm cannon alone makes it the best CAS aircraft ever

I doubt it will be able to carry anywhere near as much firepower as the A-10.
