Learn as much as you can before ever going to the tattoo studio. Know what you want to get, and be realistic about size and placement, hey even draw or printout a picture of some things you like. Go at this with the perspective, that this is your own artistic expression thats going on your body, don't copycat another tattoo, think of an idea and run with that..any good artist can draw out your ideas on paper, so don't be afraid to ask. Think back to an operation or a shot, do you have a high tolerance for pain, or do you pass out at the slightest stick form a needle? If you didn't answer the first one yes, then don't so this. This isnt the most painfull thing in the world, i actually like it to an extent; but it is a small needle cuting your flesh open and inserting ink into your skin, take an old metal hair brush with sharp bristles and rub it across your arm for a few minutes, its a little worse than that.

I was 29 when I got my tattoo. The reason I waited so long is because I couldn't decide until then what I wanted to permanently put on my body. Through my teens and early 20's my opinions and tastes changed so many times that any tattoo I got then would have meant little or nothing to me now (I'm 38) and I'd probably hate it. So I waited. I adore my tattoo and am probably even more in agreement with its meaning now than I was when I got it.

As to physically, I have an armband- and a great deal of it is black (the big needle). The guy started on the front of my bicep and worked around to the back. On the front of the arm it felt like a mild pinching/buzzing sensation. Uncomfortable, but tolerable. The closer he got to the armpit the worse it became until I felt like I was being electrocuted with a hot butcher knife. I had to lie down on the floor for a few minutes because I was seeing these big black spots before my eyes and I thought I was going to faint. He finally finished the last part of the tattoo with me lying on my belly with my arm twisted behind me and I was biting into my other arm to keep from screaming. Not pretty.

People will say I'm a wimp but I've heard from lots of others that under the arm is one of the worst spots to get done. Also, the back of the neck, the belly, and the bony part of the ankle. I guess it all depends on your tolerance for pain. Would I get another arm band? Probably not. Will I get another tattoo in the future? Don't know. If another idea means as much to me as this armband does, probably. Hope this helps.

Of course it hurts but if you get a tattoo that you really want and a few years down the road you still think you made a good decision then it's worth it. To make it a good experience just think about what it will look like on you, and keep telling yourself you made a good decision because if you did years down the road and you'll never regret it.

like any body modification, getting a tattoo will hurt. how much it hurts depends on how well you handle pain. i have 7 of them, and each one hurt at a different level depending where on my body it was. don't take any advil or any type of pain releiver before going!! it will thin out your blood and you will bleed more than you should during a normal tattooing process. all i can recommend is to not be nervous and try not to focus on the process too much..it'll cause your pain receptor nerves to be overly sensitive to pain. just relax and try to breath deeply and keep making conversation to divert your mind. it will hurt, but in the end, it'll be worth all the pain. after my first one i swore off getting anymore due to the pain, but soon forgot what it felt like and now i have added 6 more little ones. go for it! hope this helped!

everyone's pain level is different. one of my tats hurt and the other didn't hurt at all. just make sure u are very comfortable with the person doing the work and ur comfortable with the place/chair. this makes ur experience a pleasant one or not. music will help also or a magazine. or u can bring someone with u to talk to. i listened to my artists' music (rock which i dont like) but i found that it made me more amped and excited about the tat and took away from the buzzing sound of the needle.

Of course it isn't very pleasant when you first get one done. The most tender spots are the lower back, ankles, inside of the arm, close to the bone, ect. To lessen pain, get one where the skin is tougher. Make sure it is a tattoo that you really want and it will be worth going through the pain ^_^

It depends on the area where you get the tattoo, if it will hurt or not (my opinion). I have one on my arm and it was more of a irritating constant sticking. Yes, it was unpleasant, but tolerable.. Places with less skin (wrist, ankles)are more sensitive and you may experience more pain. I am thinking of getting one more on my shoulder blade.

I hope this helps

yes...get your tat in a spot where there is a lot of fat. Like your thigh, butt, breast, arm, something like that. It doesnt hurt too bad in fatty areas of your body. What hurts is when you get it done where there is bone underneath, like your foot, your ankle, or your leg. It does hurt, I ain't gonna lie, but it is so totally worth it! I have two small ones, one on my big toe of a red rose, and another on my upper back between my spine and shoulder blade of a butterfly. They are both small, so they didn't take long to do, my rose took 10 minutes, and my butterfly took 30 minutes - my rose hurt more b/c it's right on my bone and near my cuticle. But I don't regret them, I love them, and I love showing them off!

If you're having second thoughts, I would think it over more. Besides the tattoo hurting a lot, if it's done unproperly it could give you infection or other roblems. Plus, you'll have it forever...
