i don't think they would even recognize a long-time pagan / wiccan as such because they have the notion cemented in their heads that wiccans are a certain way (the silly young teens or the ones that are way out there or what's portrayed on tv). so they would probably say to themselves, "no that person's not WICCAN, they're too normal/balanced/down-to-earth"

I have also been Pagan for about 20 years. I am Wiccan, originally taught in an Alexandrian coven through 3rd degree, and later went on to create the Equinox Tradition which is slightly more ritualistic than the Alexandrian Tradition. I am the High Priest of a coven, and heavily involved in the pagan community and religious rights for all people of all religions. I do not think any religious belief is silly that is spiritual to the person who believes it, and they do not use it as an afront to those who do not believe as they do. I have had people question my beliefs, my coven has even been protested once, but I hold no ill will towards these people. I hold my beliefs very dear to me, and respect the beliefs of other people.

Actually I became a born again pagan at the age of 15 after I finished researching all the religions. I was raise christian. I am now 28 years old about to get married to a wonderful and tolerant christian with a career of my own and about to start a family in a few years. Everyone starts a wacky wiccan/pagan because it's so new and different. Its where you take that knowledge and experiance into your future when you think more spiritually into your own belief system. And believe me honey older pagans are out their and our numbers are growing every day. We just are older so we don't tend to have the urge to display our beliefs like the teenagers do.

I am a Christian, and I think pagans and Wiccans are some of the coolest people I would ever want to meet.
I can't imagine anyone thinking they're silly or wacky.
I know several pagans as well as Wiccans and am good friends with them.

I must say as a Christian, I don't know any Pagans. Not that I despise them, lol, just don't hang in the same circles. However, I have friends that are atheists that I get along with (even if I don't agree with them) and I am sure I could do the same for Pagans. We all have free will and choice. All I can do is show you how Christ has made a difference In my life and tell you what He has done for me. I can't judge you or try to convert you. That has to come from you. :) Thanks for the question and have a great day!

LOL I so understand this. My favorite are the ones who claim to be Wiccan for the freak factor. Or to upset their parents. My niece is dating a Wiccan whose father happens to be a southern baptist minister. lol This boy is very negative about christianity. Makes me sad really. He must have hated growing up in his family.
Now I've been Pagan for 20+ years and I've met some wacky folks. I think most of them are just playing and have no idea what the reality is behind what they claim to follow.

I was a local coordinator for Pagan Pride Project for five years. I took that post and got grey hairs putting on Pagan Pride Day festivals in order to meet, network with, and provide a public speaking platform for people who shared my respect for nature, reverence for the power of myth, contempt of dogma, and open-minded attitude toward the true potentials of living beings in our bizarre and beautiful universe.
What ended up happening is that year after year, I'd find the event monopolized by superstitious, self-serving, weak-minded hippie burnouts who paid paganism and the new age movement lip service for the sake of sensational media coverage for their sexual fetishes, conspiracy theories, and tacky, stereotype-reinforcing divination businesses.
So: yes, I've known a handful of pagans with decades of practice under their belts and the ability to describe and share their beliefs. I've known twenty times as many hucksters and charlatans who strap on a pentacle just so they can talk a few more teenagers into buying a tarot reading.

Paganism/ wicca is generally non-proselytizing. It's personal, and doesn't "recruit". That said, the ones that are in-your-face may be a little silly, wacky, or whatever. Those vocal ones get to be heard, but don't represent us all. Those of us remaining quiet with our inner bliss are far more difficult to notice.
Just some friendly banter, to the answerer who said Wiccans are deluded. . . "Warlock" means "deceiver" or "oath-breaker"

No one has a right to judge a religon by a few people that may not be representing it right. The vast majority of people on Y!A that are pagans seem like nice people to me. But I don't know anything about the religon much so I have no right to comment on whether it's wacky or not.

I don't know any long-time Pagans (other than R&S people, if I can say I "know" you) but I don't have these ridiculous notions of Pagans myself. I know that the teenyboppers don't represent what you really believe.
Besides, if I ever were to call you "silly" or "wacky" it means I like you. Those words are compliments coming from me. :)
