Under California law, is a casket required for cremation? Also, is Interment less expensive as a result. I'm trying to figure if cremation of my remains will be less expensive for my wife when the Lord finally calls me home. Funerals can be very expensive these days, as many of you know, so I'm interested in making the whole process a inexpensive as possible

Cremation is generally cheaper than traditional interment, often significantly so.

According to the Forest Lawn Memorial Park website, California law requires a container for cremation. One of the products they offer to meet this requirement is a fiberboard box which costs under $50. It depends upon whether or not you want a viewing. The viewing caskets are more expensive.

There are several cremation societies working out of California, including The Neptune Society. Their website outlines the services that they offer, and might help give an idea of costs and procedures for cremation:

I have often wonder about being cremated myself, but I have never come across any scriptures saying you cant. I did notice that when you read of someone being burnt it was a heathen, not one who was saved. I am not calling lost people heathens just referring to what it says in the bible. So now I question if God wants us to be cremated.

No but the fiber board described above is simply a CARDBOARD BOX - FOR $50.00!!!!!!! Talk about a rip off!!!!

Cremation is less expensive but not for everybody.
