"GSI" is the trim level.
The letters don't actually stand for anything.

On some brands (e.g Vauxhall, Opel) GSI is a sporting version.
On other brands (e.g. Hyundai) it is just a normal trim level.

For example, the Hyundai Amica in the UK comes as a GSI or a CDX, with the CDX having a higher level of standard equipment (and a higher price) than the GSI.

GSI is merely a model abbreviation that signifies options on the car. When fuel injection first came out in the late seventies, "I" was used to signify that the car was fuel injected. Sometimes "S" meant that it was a sport model, usually having slightly sportier options, such as stripes, wheels, stiffer suspension, etc. "T" usually signified that it was a Turbo model.
