Makes no difference in cooking...
It's a matter of appearance and I don't give it a thought.
However, it ends up on the table.

I felt really stupid when I asked my wife if it matters which side to use for cooking. I always put the shiney side on the outside. Maybe this question will put an end to the debate!

The shiny part of the foil is meant to be outside. If you put something in the oven to bake, put the dull side on the inside touching the food. This prevents the food from sticking.

I prefer the shiney parts outside cuz it looks pretty. Reynolds has said numerous times that it actually makes no difference which side you use for cooking. One side doesn't reflect any more than the other.

I've always put the shiny side on the outside of what I'm wrapping. My husband does it just the opposite way, and I really can't tell any difference in how effective it is either way. I guess I do it my way because that's the way my Mom did it, so that's how I 'learned' it.

I have always put the shiny side out to try and reflect the light and let it bounce around the oven, but it makes no difference what way you have it. It is just the way it is made.

I always put the shiny side on the outside. I like things to be clean and tidy, and to me, shiny = clean, so if that's the side I can see, I'm satisfied.
The dull side looks sort of grungy to me, and if I can see it, it kind of kills the appetite.
