Early on in my walk with the Lord, I felt moved by the Holy Spirit to get rid of my TV. I have been without my own television for about 6 years or so now, AND DON'T MISS IT AT ALL!

Have you felt the Lord move you to take the same action ? Did you respond positively, or are you delaying ? Any other thoughts concerning this subject ?

Thanks in advance for all polite answers.

Bless you.

Hi.

For the record, I don't own a computer.

I use the internet at work in MY time and at the local library. The one's at the library are screened to prevent receiving porn, etc.

I use it probably about 10 - 12 hours a week, and mainly on YA and e mailing other Christians.

Blessings.

I've experienced the same thing. The TV was on almost all the time I was at home. I knew I wouldn't grow as a believer if the TV stayed, not because TV have to be a bad thing, but because I couldn't handle it. I couldn't watch just a little, nor could I only watch programs that would actually give something and be good to me, but all the junk TV-shows was automatically on. I've been without the TV for over a year, and I don't miss it at all either. I got more time to dive into the Word of God, which is the true life-giver. We reap what we sow.

Some believers may not have a problem with TV, but then again it can be something else instead. Something that steals our time with God or service for others.

Absolutely, look at all the harm and destruction that it has produced, it costs more to be on the boob tube, more and more, and receive less and less. Some will argue its just a medium - In ancient Israel the Israelites were told to cast out all mediums, soothsayers and idols. This is exactly what the TV has become! We all would benefit from throwing it out. Others say how will I get my news? How will I get to know what is going on in the world? Realize this, that every news cast is propaganda - they give you snipets of "what" they want you to see, thinking that is what you "want" to see.

TV also presents a problem with color TV, and now with the newer versions of High Definition, our eyes are wired to perceive such depths and the more of it that we see, the more our brains are wired to want more of it, so that when we dont watch it, we are always wanting to watch it, because our brains are not getting the stimulus that it receives when watching it - Prove it to yourself - with the TV on in your house watch how it pulls your eyes to it! Enough said! Also try reading a book, we dont find the ability to read, because the mind is nt getting fed the vast amounts of stimulus, pictures and motion through characters that just stand still on white dull paper!

If Television ever comes out with smell! The world is doomed!

I have a tv, but don't watch it much. Once in awhile I'll get sucked into a stupid show my roommates are watching but usually I'd rather read a book. When I do watch on my own it's usually the National Geographic channel or LOST. The mere fact that LOST exists is enough for me to want a television.

I think this pertains to God in the extent that he made me a huge nerd who would rather read than watch television. I'm glad he did.

Many years ago, I heard teaching about Phillippians 4:8 "Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things."

I caught a revelation about TV many years ago, and how that watching it only polluted my soul.

It's interesting to note, that world famous Thomas Kinkade and his wife and family do not own a TV. It steals your spirituality, your energy, your brain cells for that matter, your creativity and especially any family time or social time.

Also interesting, that there are actually states that sponsor a "No TV Week". Not even spiritual related.

The closer you get to God, the farther from the world we seem to get.

I believe T.V is fine as long as it doesnt interfere in your walk with God. I ususally dont watch it very much because im at work, doing an internship and taking summer college class so I dont have time and either way I only watch some choice shows on Nickelodeon, Discovery, Disney, and the occasional Ghost Hunters on Sci-Fi.

I have surely felt the Lord move me to certain actions that I was uncomfortable with. I think if we (people) pay attention to what's going on around us and how the Lord is speaking to us, we will see God leading us to certain places. I've left and accepted jobs based on faith that the Lord was leading me. The house I live in now I bought after much prayer and it wasn't the house I "wanted" as much as the house that I felt the Lord was leading me to. And I am very happy to follow His lead!! Be blessed and continue to listen for Him to have you in places where you will be fully utilized for His glory!

Be blessed

That's between you and the Lord....but is the Internet replacing the TV. Nothing is evil in itself, but things can take
over and replace maybe something God wants you to do.
So, I can't give you a straight answer.

Well God bless you for listening to the Lord! I am very happy for you!

My problem isnt really the TV.

It is books...I should be reading the Bible, but I find myself constantly reading other books. Yes, I read Harry Potter....and I do feel that my relationship with God is not as strong or near as strong as it could be due to my reading all these other books.

So now I request everyone to pray for me as I continue with this struggle....please.

If God desires that you not have a TV than that's fine. Why though would you think others would be given the same motivation?

God deals with all of us one-on-one.
