No. You're here legally. The problem you may be running in to is people seeing that you're a Latina and immediately assuming that you're Mexican AND wonder if you're 'one of them'.

Why would we like people that come here illegally because they think it isn't a big deal? To steal jobs, not pay taxes to support the country, then turn around and demand welfare and help in other areas. I have no problem with people of different races/creeds/religions/backgrounds/whatever working here, as long as it is legal. They claim they do it so they can support their families and survive. I could go out and rob a bank or extort someone so I oculd do the same, it doesn't make it right or justified.
I say give local police juristiction to arrest someone here illegally, hold them until the Feds show up, and ship them out. If they get caught more than once, then put them on a list of repeat offenders and up the punishment. Right now, they get caught, they get shipped back where they just try again. It is a waste of money and resources to do this. If I break the law, they keep a record of it. If I do it again, the punishment becomes more severe. The same should be for border jumpers.

As a Latino, I can care less what other Americans think or whether they like me or not, I got my voter registration card tucked away in my wallet, my voice is heard whether people like it or not. I am also against illegal immigration, does that mean I hate latino's? Of course not, I just want my country's rules and sovereignty to be respected......... I treasure my latin heritage, but I also am very proud of the fact that I was born in this country to legal immigrants (actually, my parents are Puerto Rican, so they are not considered immigrants...)
As for you........ don't be mislead, you can be proud of your heritage and still be proud of being an American.

Thank you for asking this question, I can speak only for myself. I do not hate Latinos immigrants. I do hate illegals. Much as people try to make the two the same thing, there is a difference. When the American man hit my car i did not get angry because he is an American man, I got angry because of the action. When the American woman stole my lunch at work I didn't get angry because she is American, I got angry because of the action. When the Latino man cut me off in traffic I didn't think he was a jerk because he is Latino, I thought he was a jerk because of the action. When people come here illegally I get angry because of the action.

N o we don't hate you at all. You sound like a nice young lady who is trying to be a good citizen. I am not from a Latin background but many of my close friends in my youth were. There is not much difference between different races. There are all sorts of personalities in all races. Some people are nice and some are jerks. what can you do?

I don not hate legal immigrants, never have. My concern is with Illegals in this country from all other countries not just Mexico or Latin America. It has always been a legal issue with me, never a racial or cultural one. I think you show independence and smart future planning by not having more children than you can take care of, and your English seems very good to me, too. Welcome to America.

Some do, but most don't. I do understand where you are coming from. People tend to judge by the worse of a group. I think it's worse on the internet, than real life. I'm sure after speaking to you most would feel comfortable. There will always be racist, and the racist hispanics are generating more, but the majority of people do know right from wrong.

Oh God no. We love you. We welcome you with open arms. Latin Americans, I think, are characteristically hardworking individuals. I have many hispanic friends, they all speak English and are on top of their studies. They'll all go far in life. They love this country and they hate how illegals are coming over to abuse the system. America isn't prejudiced against Hispanics, it's disdainful of people who would break immigration laws to come and abuse the system. Supposedly illegal Hispanics are Roman Catholic and don't believe in contraceptives. This is a major problem. I don't mind how many children they have, as long as they don't abuse tax payer money to have them...which is wishful thinking on my part. They need to start taking responsibility for their children's education, clothing, and food. By having more children they cannot afford, they're making their existing ones suffer.
Good on you. It's a refreshing thing, you know, seeing a latina immigrant recognizing the wrongs of illegal immigration. When all the rest of us try to profess our opinions, we get marked as "racist" and "bigoted". Oi vey.

Sadly, some Americans are so upset over the illegal alien situation that--despite believing they're only angry at the illegals--they have trouble differentiating between the legal and illegal immigrants they might see on the street. It's unfortunate.
But it's not all of us, by any means.
