It IS an old antidepressant medication and one of the known side effects is drowsiness. It is usually prescribed for night time dosing and often helps people sleep quite well.

You might find that you get used to it after about a week or so, and the side effects are not so pronounced.

Despite it being an antidepressant it has other uses. At low doses it has been used as a sleeping tablet. It has some effectiveness in treatment of neuropathic pain. Now that you mention it being used for migraines, I'm going to go have a read. I've never heard of it being used for migraines before, but it is outside my specialty so maybe this is new learning for me :-)

the documents provided via jholand is right. in spite of the undeniable fact that, enable me state that a 10mg dose of nortriptyline is amazingly low. i've got seen many sufferers soak as much as 150mg in line with day devoid of any factor consequences. Drowsiness, dry mouth and dry eyes may be the main in all threat factor consequences, yet no longer likely at this form of low dose. i'm hoping this enables. Rick the pharmacist
