If you had a child doing the same thing, you would take him to a doctor right?

The same applies here.

Everyone sounds right on!
This is a symptom that they ate something that they are not used to, or they just had a bug!
As long as they are not throwing up anymore, and are still able to use the bathroom and are eating and drinking he should be fine!
If he starts throwing up anymore or gets diarrea again I would call the vet ASAP.
But as long as all his habits are back to normal, either he has passed the object that was causing him problems, or has overcome the bug!!
The time to worry though is when they aren't using the bathroom or eating or drinking! Then there is something more urgent wrong!

your dog has probably had a virus, just like we get gastro-enteritus..the runs and being sick:-(

If I hadn't already called the vet (after him being sick for a day), I would have called them immediately! I would have wanted him checked over, see if his temperature was affected (which it no doubt would have been) and get something to help him.

Chances are if they have the runs and they've been sick ..it's just a little bug, or something they have eaten. For day 1 I would monitor their stools and starve them (to avoid them having food there to be sick with). Day 2 I would offer very light food and keep monitoring. At all times when a dog is suffering like this (or a human for that matter) hydration levels (ie fluid levels) should be kept high, to avoid de-hyrdrating.

A vet will normally give you some free advice over the phone..and I'm sure they would have told you similar to myself...

I'm glad your dog is feeling better now. Jus make sure he is eating/drinking well now...he will have lost alot of fluid and will need to get his strength back up.

Probably ate some rotten garbage or chewed on a carcass and got a nice case of enteritis. Partial bowel blockages can also cause those symptoms until the object passes. Allowing your dog to vomit and have diarrhea for 3 straight days is dangerous, I wouldn't recommend doing it again, as around the 4th or 5th day he can die from dehydration or systemic infection/bowel necrosis.

dogs have a tendency to eat any thing and everything. he probably ate something toxic to him like chocolate. May have found a peice laying around somewhere. Raisins are also very toxic to dogs. My dog found and ate my whole box of Whoppers(malted milk balls). He left me the biggest present in several places on my carpet. BIG TIME DIARRHEA! Thats probably what happened. But continue to keep a close watch on him.

Ate something that didn't agree with him. Learned the hard way not to feed our dog to much turkey. We forgot to take dog food with us one Thanksgiving when we went to a relatives house. Feed the pooch turkey scraps instead - weee dogies was she ever sick after that. After a couple of days she was all better.

When a dog has an upset stomach they will throw up.

And if you take them outside and you see them eating grass, thats because the grass helps their stomach.

I would know, that happened to my dog

Sounds like you're dog had a bug or ate something bad. Keep an eye on him. If he's eating & drinking he should be ok.

Pets can get a virus just like people do. Sounds like that might've been the problem.

If it starts up again, I'd suggest getting him to the vet right away.

all the answers so far are correct, he could have ate something foreign to his stomach and they get stomach viruses just like we do. could have been a case of food poisoning, just thank god hes alright now.
