Our forests are being burnt down. Every day new fires are set before the previous ones get controlled. From Central - South Italy to all Greece and Turkey the disaster is unbelievable. We all know that the "land mafia" is behind many of the arsons, but what about arsons on wild mountains with no financial interest? Anything else we might be suspicious of?

Knight, I'm very sorry about what happens in the Balcans too, the reason I made a refference to these three countries is just that I feel them closer to me for several reasons....

Since you ask about other reasons than arsons about the forest fires, I believe littering can be another reason.

Our forests are mostly open to public . The closed ones are not monitored enough so people can easily acsses them. Leaving behind their litter such as glass bottles, even aliminium candy bar wraps can easily cause a fire- reflection of the sun beams and focusing on dry wood- basic optic physics .

It is also a known fact that people from the mountain villages start fires in order to open fields for agricultural purposes.. Since the penalty of unauthorised cutting down of the trees has a high penalty, they choose this way. Of course, stopping a fire is a lot harder than starting one and the situation gets out of hand..

My opinion of at least controlling the fires is to make the forests nontranspassable and force a big sum of penalty - maybe imprisonement to the ones who do.

EDIT: I am very sorry to learn that 3 lives are lost in the fires in Greece today.

Hope they rest in piece..

Pretty sure that the land mafia is behind the whole scenery, and this happens because the goverments of each country do not ban constructions on burnt soils in the forests, so every consciousless constructor has the audacity to build any kind of edifice. If the goverment would impose a law that all premises in the burnt down places be demolished, no one would even think of constructing again in the woods (as it actually happened in Germany)

We always try to find an 'enemy' starting forest fires. I believe it is true in some cases. However, let us not forget the extremely high temperatures we are facing. Mediterranean forests are very dry and easy to catch fire. Someone throws a cig butt accidentally or a broken piece of glass acts like a magnifying glass and there you go.
Today at 1.30 noon the car's thermometer showed 50C!!! The airconditioner in my living room (36,000BTU) stopped functioning for an hour. It is unbelievably hot. Nature is taking her revenge on us. For centuries we have been destroying our only home, Earth. Now we are being punished.

Like mertev said, some of our fires could be started by terrorists.

But I can't explain the number of fires in Greece. It's really devastating!

The solution to fires for land can be solved very easily. Even if people burn them every year, the government never, but never let's constructions on these sites and in autumn, a tree planting campaign is started. If you like a tougher approach, people who build on fire sites are arrested for arson.

I just don't want to believe arsons for no reasons. Could it be that they are starting only because the weather is hot? You know, everywhere is like tinder.

I believe that there are many interests…
As an example, new areas that in the next future will have palaces and houses, lands that burn for having new pastures, arsonists without scruple… The stupidity of the men sometimes it's the ruins of the humanity...

Hello Angelo,
I would say the PKK is doing that in turkey but they are probably not related to the fires in greece and italy. Whoever they are, they are burning our lungs.

Ä° have a new technique that we could grow trees faster by hydroponics.Ä°f you wonder what is hydroponics it s the method of growing plants only by water without soil
Ä° ve got a very good remedy for those new trees it s composed of pigeon sshit and rabbit sshit. But the quantities are important if you put too much of one the tree can execute itself because of overjoy.
also we could built some self activated robots who carries 1 ton of water to go and stop the fire as it starts we can even program it to kick the asss of the firestarters.
