That's what one-year-olds do - throw food and almost anything away. She refuses to use the spoon because most likely you are trying to feed her. Children are inborn explorers and they like to touch things and do things themselves. If you let her eat the food herself, it might help you some-just make sure to cover the area she'll be eating at well, so the mess is easy to clean up. Unfortunately there is a downside to letting a one-year-old eat by her/himself - he/she might get carried away with playing and stay hungry. If this happens, try feeding her an hour or so later, you should succeed because your child will be very hungry.

That's normal to play with food with her fingers. I wouldn't give a 1 year old a spoon and bowl though (unless she's almost 2). I would feed her myself. Put some cheerios on the tray and feed her yourself. You need to lay down the law and show her the rules, otherwise you are in for years of manipulation from her to get what she wants.

I would try feeding her w/ a spoon to at least get some food in her mouth. As far as her playing w/ her food that's natural at this age- they like to feel different techures (sp?). I know it can be annoying, but it only last for a certain period and before you know it she'll be using her own spoon!

Unfortunately that's a 1 yr. old. Put an old sheet under her high chair, or a towel. Once you can see she's doing more playing than eating just remove her form the high chair and later on when she is hungry try again.

Then feed her yourself and don't let her hold the bowl or the spoon for when you want her to get food in her stomach. When you just want to let her discover food, then let her make a mess. Tell her not to throw her food when she does, she can understand "no."

Your pretod is changing. My daughter will not let me feed, she has to do it herself. They are trying to do things for themselves.
