My husband was sentenced to a 15 year term. He only has to do 15% of that time. But I hired an attorney who said he could get him paroled sooner. It has been a year and a half and he has done nothing. Everytime I talk to him he promises something will be done "next week", and obviously nothing does! I don't know what to do. I am afraid if I file a complaint with the Bar, that he won't try as hard to get him out. He is a very good attorney, and I want him to just do what he told me he can do. Any suggestions? Please, no husband bashing, really, I could do without. Thanks in advance.

Write him a letter (keep a copy) requesting your unused retainer refunded to you (making sure to get a detailed statement of his time spent/retainer used), and find a new attorney. If he won't do his job, fire him and move on.

If the attorney is simply refusing to pursue the case diligently, then that's an ethical violation and should be reported.

If the attorney is pursuing the case, but delayed because of when the court is scheduling hearings and such, then there is not much the attorney can do about the delays.

Either way, the attorney should be talking to you, and explaining the timeline and the reason for the delays.

Sadly, many attorneys do not take their ethical obligations seriously.

FIRE THE BUM!! He's not a good attorney - a "good attorney" would keep you updated, and if there was a problem scheduling a hearing, etc., he would let you know. Hire another attorney, then file a complaint so someone else won't make the same mistake hiring this guy.

Write him a letter and send it certified to him. Tell him that you have contacted him on numerous occasions concerning the matter and he keeps putting you off by saying 'next week'. Tell him that if he isn't going to do what he should have, then you request the money not used that you have paid him and you request all of your documentation with it as well so that you are able to hire a new attorney. After he responds, then go to the bar with your information. He may get on the ball after you send him the letter. If nothing else, keep calling, everyday if you have to. He will get tired of hearing from you and do it just to get you to stop.

some attorneys have great reps because of their court win records, but did you ever think about how 1 chooses a case thinking it's a sure win? what i'm saying is just because the rep is good doesn't mean he can be succesful in just any case. most have their specialties in crime. i would seek another or ask for a referal of a friend just as good or better in the specific case. good luck you will need it.

Fire your lawyer, get a new one, file a complaint with your state's Bar Association.

Fire him, get a new lawyer. No different than a gardener who doesn't mow the lawn. There are a hundred hard workers ready to take his place.
