That is where you are wrong. 2 Corinthians 9:8 . The church does need it; a steady flow of funding and donation. People need more than money, they need Jesus more, you can give a person money and it may in danger him, he may buy drugs, beer, wine, whatever. You can teach a person how to live and he or she will be better for it. The Church's can not live without money God does pay the bills if you provided the source. Giving back takes time and that is what man has little of. Luke 12 read.

First of all, there are many Christian denominations that do not engage in door-to-door ministry, including my own. Also, when we give to the church, a lot of that money goes to charity. There are many projects we work on through the church (homeless shelters, community food pantries, disaster relief, education, clothing, free medical care) which do help the community. Are you sure you know all that much about "narrow-minded" Christians and what they really do? I mention Christians here because you specifically mentioned churches, but since your heading is "religious people", I should mention that there are also many faith-based charities run by non-Christian religious groups, as well.

Uh, questions like these do not accomplish anything... You are attacking Christians because of something you dont seem to understand.
Im an atheist. I can tell you that Churches do indeed give back to their communities, but you dont see it because you are either not a person in need, or you are not a member of that church. Furthermore, it would be STUPID to go door to door handing out money - what would that accomplish? that your neighbors had enough drug or alcohol money for the evening? Then, you accuse them of being narrow minded - when your posting demonstrates that you are as narrow in your thoughts as you accuse them.

The church is a collection agency whose members are brainwashed to support them. There is only one God of this earth MONEY called the Beast in Revelation that you cannot buy or sell without it, it's name or it's mark..all mean the same either you have it or you don't.
Giving money to the church allows the church to bestow its blessings on you so you can then proselitize on the church's behalf something like Amway and Tupperware..getting others into the collection pot for you...And of course the Church has deceived the people for years and generations that they have credibility and can give you their credibility if you do their bidding...Something like the police whose credibility in the community is directly proportionate to the members of the community they can prosecute because in their eyes everyone is a sinner yet to be caught.
If the police really had credibility they would not be spending their days deceiving the community, hiding behind bushes and trees and other obstacles with their radar guns to catch the sinners that we all are nor would they be thinking of ingenious entrapments lol...Imagine the police drressing up to the height of sexuality and tempting the sinners to partake of their deceit just to handcuff them and take them to jail; nevertheless, the police and the priest have many things in common hiding and protecting their own bum from exposure lest they be seen as one of the sinners by the smell they give off.

"Give a man a fish, feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, feed him for a lifetime."
The Christian congregation today does help those in need on a short-term basis also. But there has to be some effort on the part of those people to better their own circumstances. Giving blindly to those who would not put forth an effort to help themselves is simply enabling the lifestyle that got them into that mess.
Help a person get on their feet, but only if they're willing to fight to stay there. By following Christian morals and standards, a person is freed from practices that drain money from important things like rent and food. This would include alcohol abuse, smoking, drugs, gambling, etc. It also engenders a industrious attitude that helps in all areas of life.
We believe in permanent solutions, not band-aid fixes.

let's see.
the American church sends missionaries and supplies to the poorest nations of the world, more than any other country. Giving them hope, even in countries where oil and monies are rich but kept in the wealthy.
I give money to the church SO they can support these missions to Africa and central America. If you haven't, go on one of these trips for a week. Live like they live. I was homeless for years. I have been on the bottom. I experienced it first hand to NEED. Now I hope to help more one day.
May your eyes be opened...

Although some churches may fall into a selfish mindtrap, you may want to actually research where the monthy givings are actually going to (most churches will let you look at their financial statements if they are public non profits) before you make comments on churches not helping communities.

I don't know what church you are talking about. MY church feeds about 700 families every week. It also supports various missionary organizations, and has connections with other similar churches.
Sounds to me like YOU are the one who is narrow minded.

I'm not a Christian. In my religion (Islam) Allah (God) gives more importance to human rights, than His own rights. For example, adultry is a sin in Islam, and back-biting is also a sin in Islam. But according to a Hadith back-biting is a greater sin than adultery, and if a adulterer asks for forgiveness from God, God will forgive him, but a person who back-bited another fellow human, will have to ask apologise that person.
Zakat is also obligatory in Islam.
Zakat (Alms giving) is a part of devotion enjoined upon Muslims by the Holy Quran. It is a means where the well-off pay a set amount of their wealth. Zakat means to purify oneself. It is obligatory on Muslims to pay a little percentage of their accumulated wealth towards Zakat, which is used for the benefit of the needy and the poor. Zakat is not levied on one's property that is in personal use, rather on the assets which have a means of increasing and which are surplus to one's needs. It is a means of social justice and order. It teaches sympathy of the highest order.
Helping the poor is also very important in Islam.
