I think that for the most it is right, at least until it gets to the last part. It does not take religion for people to do bad things. Everyone makes mistakes whether they are Christian, Pagan, Atheist or whatever they choose to be. It is how they act after the mistake has happened that defines whether they are truely a good person or not.

Cute play on words but not too deep. Evil deeds are done by evil people. If so-called "good people" do evil deeds they weren't good people to begin with hence the quote is simply what it is, a simple-minded swipe at religion by a non-believer.

For the record, I am an non-believer in any religion but will defend Christianity and Judaism because without these religions I believe most people would be closely akin to savages similar to the Muslims lacking any possibility of self-imposed moral and ethical behavior.

I don't see why religion should be singled out. Off the top of my head I'd say you can say the same thing about politics and patriotism as well.
