I travelled to New York just a couple of weeks ago with Delta Airlines. It was reasonably priced . I would definitely recommend them.

At this point for a 20-Aug departure most if not all of the "cheap seats" are sold. You're too close to the departure date. Try Travelocity, Expedia, Kayak, etc. Good luck!!

look on airline's websites ( B.A., not just cheap ones) but look for flights from europe. i would try germany first, maybe hamburg. it might take a little bit of time to find one, but you can very often find a much cheaper flight from hamburg to new york, even allowing for the extra return flight to germany. if you dont min the extra couple of hours flying time, its worth it.

Aer Lingus are possibly the lowest priced carrier at the moment. You would have to transfer at Dublin but it's no problem.
