How far will the clubs travel? If you're throwing them?

Everyone else answered about how far the ball will travel, but I think all clubs would travel about the same distance if you throw them (all else being equal).

No...The loft of a typical #9 iron is 43* and the loft of a typical #3 iron is 21*. The loft of the club will not allow this to happen, the #9 iron will simply hit the ball too high to out distance a #3 iron. Also, you can hit the #3 farther because the club is longer (longer = more distance). The long drive champion will use a driver close to 50" long, while tour players typically use a driver in the 44" range.

No. The lower the number of the iron, the farther it should go when hit correctly. The distance for a 3 iron shot should be considerably longer than that of a 9 iron.

no, 3 irons travel a lot further than a 9 iron.

9 irons are used for when the pin is close (120m away) and a 3 iron is a long iron where you can hit up to 220 if your a pro

josh: its the lower the number of the club, the further it will go!

If hit correctly...no. However if you can blade a 9-iron and count the roll...yes a 9-iron can go farther than a 3-iron.

It shouldn't however, depending on the caliber player who is comparing them the 9 iron could certainly go farther than the 3 iron.

No. A nine iron because of the degree of the club will get more elevation than distance. It is designed for shots closer to the green. A three iron on the other hand is a more flat faced club and is designed for distance. For some reason, the higher the club number the less distance you should expect.

Assuming both the 9-iron & 3-iron are hit solid......the 3-iron will go much further because it's a lower lofted club.

No. Do you play golf? Lower the number the farther the ball goes. Hence, 9 is bigger than 3, so 3 goes farther.

A 9iron travels farther up in the air while a 3iron travels longer distance. Meaning 9 goes higher up and less yardage forward while a 3 goes more yardage forward and not as high.

If you swing properly, it won't. If you duff a 3 iron and smack a 9 iron, you may get the 9 to go further.
They higher the club number, the further it should go.
