And since I'm usually the only one in the room not gaffawing when someone else tells gross poop stories, is it rude for ME to show my distain?

I don't even mean just my friends. It's everywhere from the movies (American Wedding when he has to eat the dog doodoo. HOW can people see that as even kind of funny?). And everyone loved the Austin Powers scene where the guy drank sewage water. I mean, come on, Hollywood, those are cheap jokes. I'm surprised people enjoy them!

I have to disagree with those telling you to loosen up. People who have only rude jokes to tell are really very shallow people. There are so many truly funny things to talk about, and lots of good clean humor out there - it's too bad people have to stoop to potty humor to think they're being funny. You stick to your guns - I'm proud of you!!

When I was growing up, anything to do with human elimination was not discussed to the point that it was dangerous. We didn't know we should tell a parent when we had atomic diarrhea. We didn't know we should tell a parent when we were constipated. We didn't know we should tell a parent when it hurt to urinate. We didn't know we should tell a parent when the urine was a different color or smelled badly.

All of those are danger signs but because it was never discussed...

I'm not supporting those who tell jokes or stories..."potty" humor. I imagine it helps alleviate some of the "mystique" about body habits.

I think it would be more helpful if children were taught the proper language for their body parts and the elimination processes. That would take some of the taboo away and help with health issues.

You could always suggest a different line of humor and let your friends know you don't appreciate those kinds of jokes. However, you know as well as I do that any men in the group are going to make fun of you so be prepared.

It's the rudeness that makes it funny. As for your own reaction, it's perfectly polite not to laugh, or to put on a weary expression.

Different people have different humor. My Mom still has that childish humor that farts and poop are funny. I don't. It's just what makes us human.

Its only acceptable when there are only men in their 40s present and they are drunk. Tell your friends to keep the bog humour in the bog. (By the way humour has two "u"s whatever they say in America).

No. It's not rude. But Farts are funny. Really, nobody wants them but everybody has them. And often at the embarrassment of the owner.

It's rude for you to show disdain at anyone's joke, unless it's seriously offensive (like an incredibly racist or sexist joke). What's more, even if you're in the right, you'll just look like an uptight prude. If you want to be popular and have friends, I suggest you bite your tongue.

Well it's precisely because potty humor are an escape from the constraints of 'proper behavior' that ppl love it so much. You should loosen up!
