Yes as all other p2p clients do lime wire too has viruses.
You can follow these steps.

1. Do not blindly click on files to download just because the name matches with the name of the file you wish to download.
(For example you want to download a movie and click on a file which is of a few kilobytes size before looking at it, it gets downloaded before you can hit cancel and you are infected.)

2. Download adaware personal edition from www.lavasoft.com it is free and it is good. Use the program to scan your system for any sort of malware and do not mistake the title to be "adware" it is "adAWARE" i.e. implying to be aware of ads and other unwanted nonsense on your pc.

3. Stop using limewire. Try torrents instead they are always good for you. A torrent a day doesn't keep the police away
but atleast saves you the trouble of downloading viruses disguised as real files.

Not in Limewire as such.Limewire is a P2P file sharing site and has software that allows you to connect to and share files with other computers. The problem comes if the other computer is affected by viruses as when you download the music or video files the viruses come in with the down load.I don't think any of the free file sharing sites are safe..Better pay on a legit site.

Any file sharing program runs that risk. Just know exactly what you need and what youre getting. Dont download Applications or anything that has a title like "urgent need to download" or anything that tells you that you need it for any reason.
Have anti-virus and anti-malware programs running or at least installed just incase you do catch something.
Your best bet is to just download either movies or music. Texts can contain scripts that could mess your computer up, and some hackers have found ways to embed viruses in image files.

Limewire itself did not cause the problems. What you downloaded likely contained viruses that you did not know about. Be aware of the types of files, especially zip or rar files as you do not know what is in them.

It is not itself a virus, but it does make it eay for you to accidentaly get an infection uinto your computer. And to that idiot at the top, BearShare IS a virus... well, spyware. DONT GET SHARE BEAR. I suggest that yuou should use this sftware as a safer alternative:

Yes, if you download the garbage, you will get garbage. Always use a good antivirus program and scan the stuff before you open it.
