My mom adopted a dog from the H.S a couple years ago, well she moved and left the dog with me,well I gave the dog to my daughter who lives with her dad in the country, this dog has never been aggressive towards anything, hardly ever barked, well my daughters neighbor said that this dog attacked one of his kittens, this is a lie,Dolly would have never hurt another living thing! I have witnesses to this FACT! This neighbor has a couple of pitbulls on chains out there, and supposedly let one of them loose to attack and kill her, there is a witness to this as well, and this is not the first time they have done this,I don't need to get into any trouble over this, what do you reccommend?

ok,the reason I said I ddint want to get into any trouble was because I am very upset over this,I am a redneck who owns a gun! I was planning on going to their house and destroying their dogs for them, but someone has talked some sense into me!

ok,well we don't know what they did with Dolly, and I do have a cat,she never attempted to harm my cat at all, even when the other dogs(my brothers dogs) chased my cat, luckily my cat is quick enough to go up the tree, she always did her own thing. We live in Mississippi,so I am not sure what the laws out here are,I am presently looking for information on this. I do know that just because the attacker was a pit bull,I do not blame the pit,it is the owners fault completely!

First off your dog probably did kill the kitty... just natural prey instinct... has nothing at all to do with the type of doggy personality of niceness she has.

Apologize to the neighbor for what she ***might have done*** (called smoking him - not saying she did only saying she might have-could have- get the point?)

That should end the neighbor problem... neighbors are better as friends than enemies unless you live in the backwoods or the dismal swamps of NC... heehee

Your dog probably did kill the kitty, as another respondent suggested.

That said, your neighbor shouldn't be dealing with evil neighbors. He's probably bullied other people - and is abusing his dog to boot.

Call the police on the owner of the pitbull.

Keep Dolly confined and not ever allowed off leash - ever again. If that's not acceptable, re-home Dolly.

I own a pit bull and live in the country. Although I would trust Baby Blue to be the sweetest thing in the world - I would still recommend calling the police on this bully.

First I'll say that hopefully the pitbull was not successful. Hopefully it couldn't get to your dog.

If this witness will go with you, I would definitely report this to the police. I'm no lawyer, but if your neighbor let the dog off the chain to attack another dog, he probably is criminally negligent. First, he has dogs that are trained to attack, second, by actually letting one loose to attack, he's endangering the public. Besides your dog, it could have attacked someone who was unlucky enough to be walking down the street at the time.

Even though the police might not be able to do anything (if it's your word and the word of your witness against his, with no physical proof) it would still be a good idea to report it. You mentioned that this is not the first time he's done this, so it may not be the last. If you report this now, and he does this again to someone else in the future and they report it, the police may look at it a bit closer.

first of all if all this did happen then they are not responsible owners. and sorry but if your dog was running loose without addequate suppervision and able to get at the kitten in some one elses yard then you were wrong as well. Wether she has hurt something before or not does not mean that she could not have played a bit ruff this time. RESPONSIBLE PET OWNERSHIP means keeping you pet out of a situation like this by respecting others property rights keeping you r pet on your own property so the oppurtunity to destroy something thst does not belong to you does not occur. but REGARDLESS THERE IS NO REASON TO SET THEIR DOG ON YOURS. the police should be involved here as they are the only ones with authority in the situation. which incidently should have been their first step as well. all they have done is add more fuel to the fire against me owning my dog and I doubt theirs are even pure.
this is probably not he answer you were looking for but it is the most honest answer i can give.

call the local spca, report the incidence and be sure to include that there is a witness along with their information so they can contact them. if it is not the first time, attempt to get the details/witness/etc for the other instances as well.

pit bulls can be very loving and sweet dogs, but one thing you really shouldn't do with them (or any 'agressive' breed dog) is leave them chained up on a regular basis. this limits their social interaction and can cause serious problems. with limited stimulation they can become (even more) aggressive. which in turn, heightens the stigma of them being viscious though it is actually the irresponsibility of the owner(s).

i wish you luck!

Just cause your dog is good with your cat, means absolutely nothing. Lots of dogs are good with the cat at home but will shake the crap out of any cat it finds on the street..

Put the gun away.. Call animal control and get them to talk to the people with the pit bulls..

User "Ericka" is mis-informed, and surely there is a category she knows something about here on Answers...maybe go on over to the "Stay at home Mommies" category, surely someone there wants to hear what you have to say.

That said, ANY dog could kill a cat. Had you ever SEEN this dog with a cat? A dog can be friendly, but they can have high prey drive, and seeing a cat run just makes them want to chase it. Many breeds ARE bred to kill small animals-Dachshunds were bred to hunt badgers, Labradors and other Retrievers were bred to hunt game, ETC. Therefore, YES, your "sweet, innocent, harmless" dog most definitely could have killed a cat.

Was your dog actually attacked? You don't say she was, you don't say she's injured. Therefore, I'm going to say she was not.

Why don't you "need" to get into any trouble? That statement furthers my suspicions. Got something to hide?

EDIT- Oh, so you own a gun. Is it registered? You were going to shoot 2 dogs, eh? I've got news for you-that's animal cruelty, it is illegal, and YOU would be the one going to jail, perhaps even prison, depending on your state laws. ;o)

If someone actually seen the pitbull attack another animal, and I'd assume it killed it, they should have called the police right then. I am a proud pitbull owner and I know how smart these dogs can be but I also know what they are capable of when stupid people don't train them properly.

Call the police, and call the local animal control. Dogs are viewed by the law as "property" - I believe that if this person purposely tried to destroy your property, then you have every right to press charges. I would think an order of protection would be appropriate too. How disgusting. I hope the police help you - ask them for advice and be sure to stay on top of this!

i would call the police and animal control. these people are sick!!! i've had friends who own pit bulls and NONE of them would hurt a fly. they have to be trained to do these things, which means the owners are the horrible ones. unfortunately, i don't think a vicious dog can be re-trained and will probably need to be "put to sleep". if you can't get results, then i would take the dog back. so sorry for your problem.
