There are any number of competent recommendations by other Top Contributors which you can readily "rent" for completing a wedding or portrait assignment. There's no need to "own" the "Best Professional DSLR" due to changing camera technology which would easily make the current technology obsolete. So, look into "renting" your "dream" DSLR and save money in the long run.
Good luck!

I recommend for you
Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT ( they called it Canon 350D) or
Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTI ( they called it Canon 400D)
Check sources below to have a look on pictures taken by this camera
After purchasing the camera you should care of lenses
Buy a telephoto lens with focal length up to 200 mm or 300 mm and a macro lens with fixed focal length up to 90 : 110 mm to get professional captures
Remember that you buy the camera with a wide angle lens that will not be enough to capture professional images
I suggest for you Sigma lenses compatible with Canon

Antoni & Fhotoace told ya right.
35mm size DSLR cameras like Nikons or Canons are used for their flexibility and smaller size during the hustle and bustle of weddings. Most photographers use cameras below the motorized giants of the Nikon and Canon line, because mobility is more important than frames-per-second shooting speed. Also, may photographers carry more than one camera during their assignment.
For the posed photos, I've seen photographers using Hasselblads or other medium format cameras for the maximum resolution.

1. Hasselblad H3D - 39 for mega quality and mega bucks
2. Canon EOS-1Ds Mark II - buy Canon lenses
or for a bit less $
Canon EOS 5D
3. Nikon D200 - buy Nikon lenses
Some photogs are finding the Fujifilm FinePix S5 Pro good for weddings and a better tonal range. (uses a Nikon D200 body)
