Christianity has the "best" specific admonition (unless you know something in the Koran, Upanishads, Vinaya etc. etc. that I don't) that is the starting point in the NOW.

"You know them by their fruits." This references the experience of reality you are CAUSING, i.e. your creations, NOT your piousness, charity, specialness etc. Observe your internal feelings regarding your experiences with others. Superficially we project our shadows/defects onto others and attributes onto gods, governments, superiors etc.

It is our feelings of frustration that can lead us to the ego beliefs about "relationships" that are in turn the cause of the barriers we misperceive which (as Jesus so vividly demonstrated 'metaphorically') that nail our feet into the limited dimension we've been taught to believe is our place in this world. Until we achieve the perfection of disinterest (Buddhist detachment, Islamic selflessness) in creatures exemplified by Christ in the tomb, we cannot give all of our gifts to the world at large and fulfill our purpose.

The concept of the Ego has gotten a bad rap and has been completely twisted out of meaning by some religious fanatics, who seem to think that a person cannot be "virtuous" unless he is constantly hating on himself and putting himself down and going on about what a miserable, worthless bit of lowdown trash he really is.

To feel good about yourself, confident, optimistic and think of yourself as a valid and worthwhile human being is not only a wonderful thing, but natural and healthy. It is only when a person has an UNnaturally inflated ego with an exaggerated sense of his own superiority and self-importance that it becomes a problem. But this is a character trait, and that person doesn't WANT to change anything for sure.

If you want to organize your life in a way that makes you a "worthy" human being, just concentrate on being a good, decent, compassionate, honest and honorable one. But don't try to undervalue yourself by engaging in deliberate self-condemnation. You will never truly respect or honor other people unless you first learn to respect and honor yourself.

First if you have a high ego get rid of it unless that ego is for Jesus Christ, A ego sometimes leads to PRIDE and we know that is right before a downfall. Psalm147:10-11 says that the strength of a hoarse does not impress him. One good way that i went is to start all over and learn the scriptures without the man made traditions or the strings attached present that the churches give you. To free you of the churches EGO read Colossians 2;9-18 and when you know that they can't judge you by these things you will free your self from Babylon...

Shave all your hair off, give all you own away and go out and beg for food and money, if that doesn't deal to your ego then nothing will.

Better still try to love yourself as you are and try to share some of that love with others.

Constantly remember that it was God who called, and not by anything we did that we were called and received the message we heard. If anything, we were just receptive to the message.

God can call anyone and even force one to follow Him. Look at the example of the apostle Paul.

Romans 9:14 ¶What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? God forbid.
15 For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.
16 So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.
17 For the scripture saith unto Pharaoh, Even for this same purpose have I raised thee up, that I might shew my power in thee, and that my name might be declared throughout all the earth.
18 Therefore hath he mercy on whom he will have mercy, and whom he will he hardeneth.

Ego isn't a bad thing. You have been lied to by religion.

Ego has helped people create beautiful works of art, has helped them solve problems that plague mankind and helped people help others in charity.

A lack of ego causes people to be self loathing and causes them to tell others they deserve ETERNAL torture in hell.

We need to remember that we are all human, and all fallible. No one is perfect and no one is completely right. We need to remember who God really is and worship Him and not ourselves or each other.
