There is no cure. Very very few people have survived rabies and of those who did, recovery was often incomplete.
Prevention is the key. If you are betten by a stray animal, the very first thing you want to do is wash out the wound THOROUGHLY with lots of soap and water. Then check with your doctor or local health department whether you should begin rabies shot, a series of 5 injections, the first on the day of the bite, then on days 3, 7, 14 and 28. The human diploid vaccine is not painful. Under certain circumstances it may be advisable to get an injection of rabies immune globulin.
Any carnivore may spread rabies, but most cases are from bats, fox, skunks, racoons, ferrets and stray dogs and cats.

Not to get it in the first place.Dying of rabies would be a horrible way to go. Domestic animals need to be inoculated against it, which a vet can do. Once contacted by a human it can only be treated by a physician, and the treatment involves a series of shots. They are no longer painful like they used to be, but the treatment is lengthy, and hospitalization may be required. If it is suspected, contact your local health department right away to see if rabies has been found in your area,. And get to a hospital now!

There is no cure, if you get bitten by an infected animal the only option is the course of preventative treatment (injections). There is no cure once an animal or person has the disease, death will follow.

Uh oh. There is no cure for SYMPTOMATIC rabies, but you can be treated immediately after exposure. This is known as post-exposure prophylaxis or "P.E.P.", is highly successful in preventing the disease if administered promptly, within fourteen days after infection.
