You can tell if someone is lying by signs such as not being able to make eye contact,sudden irrational movements such as non stop fiddling with hands or tapping the feet also inconsistencies in their stories lots of pauses where it seems obvious that they are trying to think of something to say.

But in defence of the person talking, shy people such as myself find it hard in the first place to make eye contact, especially if they're talking to a person they secretly like.

Never heard of that. You can tell if someone is lying because they do not make eye contact. I've also heard that you can tell that someone is lying if they constantly look to the left as they are lying to you.

not really, they say that when people lie that they don't to you eye to eye. I believe people look away when they are lying.
