First of all, great book. I have reread it like 8 times.
Now the second part. This is complicated and also depends on who you talk to.
There are many aspects to the God and Goddess. It closely resembles the trinity. And like the trinity people will argue they are all separate and there are those who argue its all the same. It boils down to what works for you.
Wicca never called to me, but the Egyptian pantheon did. It always felt right. I have, in my mind at the very least, met Thoth. I'm in college right now LOL we have a good relationship. I also relate to Isis as a mother. Isis is the beginning and life, Osiris is the end and death. You can't have one with out the other. Ma'at and Thoth are magic as well.
If you ask any pagan/witch they will tell you the tradition that they fell into just felt right and spoke to them. My sister is Wiccan and she said it just feels like she is supposed to be there. It's too earth based for me to feel comfortable with it. Good luck on your journey! If you can find a teacher or at the very least a live person or people that you have open dialog with.
Blessed Be

Oh, you'll know. Read as much as you can about as many as you can. I remeber my first experience with Thoth. Hit my like a ton of bricks. Trust me. You will know.

Well with Wicca and paganism its really up to you. Some believe in all the gods and goddesses. Some believe in specific one like Grecian or Japan's. My beliefs are that their is a god and a goddess. Negative and positive , yin yang, male female. a perfect balance. The gods and goddess through out the worlds are just aspects of them. To worship one or ask for their help in a spell is to better direct your energy in that purpose or spell. The books you read are to give you the basics but in the end follow what your heart feels and where it leads you. Try Spiral dance as well, can't think of the author right now but it's a great book. Also try Moon Magick. It gives you spell, folklore, and background information from all over the world. Don't just read and obey. That's what the bible is for. Wicca and paganism is to help open you mind so that you can begin your own journey. Nothing is set in stone and that's beauty of it. Good luck little one and Bright Blessings!

Gods/ Goddesses are representations of different elements/ seasons/ emotions... basically representations of anything you can think of... EG if the vikings needed thunder and lightening they would invoke Thor since he is the god who represents these things.

Maybe the things in nature that appeal to you are the "gods" you should "worship"??

Best books to look at if you are new to wicca/ paganism etc are books about physics, philosphy, symbolism etc. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY on books by Silverravenwolf etc becouse they will tell you very little about witchcraft, I think that the new age publishing industry is a bit of a racket personally so thats only my opinion.

Best books will give you things like tables of correspondance, mythology, ritual etc. Theresa Mooney is a good author if you need a starting point or reference guide and have heard that a book called a witch alone by marion green is very good.

Blessed be.

The Gods and Goddesses we choose are the embodiment of what we think our higher power should be. What God and Goddess moves you the most and provides the most bang for your worshipping buck!

A lot of Wiccans and others worship the male and female as the God and Goddess without saying who these deities are. They represent the male/female, the father/mother or the Yin/Yang. I personally feel that we are these deities and therefore were act for them. You know the same way that Christians do all the grunt work for their God.

I depends on who you talk to as to what information you will get. We believe in the God/Goddess head and we use the energy that comes from that fount to do the best that we can to protect nature and get our Mother planet from being poisoned by people who only want to use and abuse and then go off to their reward without worry about the generations to come. I have one foot on my soap box...

Please feel free to contact me directly about anything. Oh and PS, if you have not been through a Wiccaning you aren't a Wiccan or so the Wiccan police say. So be careful that someone doesn't pounce on you about it. As for me, you could be a pot of spagetti and I wouldn't care. :-)

I am reading that book too.
After asking a similar question, I see your answers are more positive than mine were.
Another really good to the point book is Simple Wicca by Michele Morgan. She gives an overall of Wicca. It is short sweet and to the point. No one here has ever mentioned it.
It has the Gods and Goddesses, colors, traditions, lunar cycles, and so much more. Just explainations too~ no fluff.
I have gotten better reference from this book than here.
I'd be lost without it.

The decision is yours. I'll tell you that yes some will step forward to let you know.

It's taken years for me to finally find the Gods that call me. The Goddesses were much easier.

The way that was best for me was to see what pantheon I was drawn to. From there start reading on that pantheon. you'll find that some of the Gods and Goddesses will drawn your interest more than the others.

You can also ask before going to bed which God and Goddess wish to work with you. You may not get an answer right away but they will answer you. Be aware of things around you and you will see hints from them.

In general, Wiccans honor the God and Goddess as the masculine and feminine aspects of the Divine.

Some honor them by specific names, some use just "God and Goddess" and/or "Lord and Lady". Some have a stronger affinity with certain pantheons or aspects/individuals, and will address their devotions to them that way. Some simply use "God and Goddess".

As far as a Patron God or Matron Goddess, it's one of those "when it happens, you'll know", in my opinion. If you have to ask "I really like Anubis and I think he's really cool, does that mean he's my Patron God?" or "I keep seeing things referring to Diana, is that a sign that she's my Matron Goddess?" then I personally feel the answer is "If you have to ask because you're not sure, then probably not."

That doesn't mean that you can't address your rituals or prayers to them, and it certainly doesn't mean that you shouldn't explore a deeper understanding of them. But to me, when you are called by a specific God or Goddess, you'll *know*.

You will know. It can be somewhat confusing, study, read of all. I am a Pagan, so worship is a little strong of a word to me. gods/goddess's are there to help guide and bring aid to you, so there is no one above me. I do not ask, I command. This is where Wicca and some Paganism part. Personally the god I do think very highly of is Astaroth, to some he is Aphrodite, Astarte, and to the Christians, he is the treasurer of hell.

In traditional Wicca, there are two very specific gods with names, and those names aren't public. That's where the idea that they are named "The lord and Lady" comes from.
In other traditions, there is more leeway.
But it's not about WANT, and is about who choses YOU.

Scott Cunningham is like TV Guide. He's going to tell you what's on accurately, but he's not going to give you enough information to act alone on. I really, strongly, suggest finding real, living people to learn from.... go to http://www.witchvox.com/xtrads.html , find a tradition that's not claiming to be ancient or asking for money, and get lessons from people, or join a mailing list with people, or meet PEOPLE!

Edit: As for knowing when one choses you, I think they make it PRETTY clear. Until that time, your best bet is focusing on celebrating the seasons and paying attention to what's around you.... go to some rituals, meet people, it might take time, but it does get clear, really.

I'd like to point out that I think deities are optional.

To me, they represent certain archetypes, they are embodiments of a certain energy. They are symbols. If you would like to choose one, choose whatever speaks to you, whatever represents the energy you want in your life, that has meaning for you. Personally I have an affinity for the Triple Goddess, but again only in a symbolic way; I don't think deities are actually real.
