Ok, I am around 5'8"... 195 pounds... and I am 14 years old. I am DESPERATE to get to 145 by around Christmas, which i think is reasonable...that's 5 months away still (only 10 pounds a month). I'm trying to count my calories and fat grams.... my limits are 1450 and 28. The only thing holding me back is that because of my age my mom won't let me join a gym. She doesn't think I am too fat... well yea right! Anyway... is there anything I can do around the house that would be a good workout (sit-ups, stairs, things like that)? Also, do you think my limits on calories and fat grams are reasonable? Please give me any tips you can think of.

Good luck

The worst thing to be is DESPERATE. 1500 cals a day sounds OK to me and your goal weight sounds OK too. At 5'8" you don't want to end up looking scrawny do you. 50lbs in 5 mths may be hard-going towards the end because you won't have much left to lose by then so the weight won't drop off quickly like it will at the beginning. Just stick to your 1500 cals a day and see what happens. For exercise, get a rope and skip. It's aerobic and just as good as jogging. Mothers NEVER think their children are too fat as they give you ever larger plates of dinner. Will she let you go swimming? Is there a pool near where you live? That's good all-over exercise and won't kill your joints. Good luck with your diet. You sound like a very sensible person.

Hi! I am not an expert, but I am always researching healthy ways to stay in shape. First of all, it sounds like you have a good aproach. Your not starving yourself or fad dieting. You could probably lower your calories a little, eat little portions every 2-3 hours. Drink lots of water. Cardio is important, but strenth training is equally important. Muscle burns fat. Look online at shape magazine. Get in a walking or jogging routine and do some weights. Focus more on inches and how your cloths fit then numbers on the scale. Muscle weighs more then fat. Good luck!

Get a couple of pilaties videos! they are awesome and really help. Also, dont only concentrate on calories. a lot of times ppl do that, they end up gaining more weight, concentrate on drinking water and walking everyday for about 30 mins-1hour. Also, I lost 25 pounds in two months from swimming at the pool, doing laps, pulls, and sprints, but start out doing laps for an half hour and make it become an hour
