I keep thinking it won't surprise me...but it still does sometimes.

Ohh labgirl I hear you on that.
People, such as the person who answered, act as if Pagan isn't a title. For me it is. I call myself witch to those outside because its easier. But I'm more of a witch in training. I'll know when its time. Somedays I laugh and some days I scream and the blatant bull **** people say on here about it.

It doesn't really surprise me, so much as it aggravates me.
What surprises me, is when they have the right information, but they're willfully ignorant of it because they prefer to believe the lies.

It never amazes me when anyone is misinformed about anything, including its followers. However, just the word "faith" is enough to tell me there isn't much more I want to know. Pagans, in my experience, are nicer than most religious believers, but that doesn't make their beliefs any more valid.

It's the willful ignorance that gets me - when people are determined to continue to deliberately misunderstand because they prefer their version over ours.
One look at prime time TV and no amount of incidental stupidity could surprise me... it's the persistant ones that have me banging my head on the desk.

Not really.
Since I'm a Wiccan I've got the double barrel of the ignorant non-Wiccans and the ignorant "I heard of the word Wicca yesterday and now I'm a high priestess" people.
I stopped being angry about them a few years ago, stopped being agast before that and amazed....heh. I am never amazed at how misinformed people can be.
It's the *liars* that tick me off, really. Mistaken people are fine, but the LIARS........ugh.

No because church leaders do not want them to find out too much information or they might leave their churches. I live in a rural area but I've seen quite a few catholic/christian schools closing in my general area because people don't want to be brainwashed and ripped off anymore.

Nah. Call me jaded, but most folks don't surprise me much these days. It gets a little annoying to deal with the 'willfully ignorant' - the folks who refuse to accept evidence to the contrary - but I've come to expect them.

Even knowing the little I do about paganism, I can understand how you feel.
I'm a non-fundamentalist Christian, and I feel ZACKLY the same way.

The Pagan beliefs are still not well known to the general public. I am only recently learning about the different beliefs and ideas myself...

Sometimes I'm surprised in a good way.
Before they broke up, my brother's girlfriend said, "Why didn't you tell me your sister's a witch? We could have been trading books months ago!"

There are times that I am amazed. It's gotten to the point that some of them will be very defensive even when they've asked questions. It's really silly.
