My 4 year old asked me when he was 3 why he has Diabetes and why doesn't God take it away? That was absolutely heartbreaking for me and it took everything I had inside not to break down crying in front of him. The best that I could come up with is ' I don't know why but I know that you're still a regular kid and that Diabetes doesn't stop you from doing all the things you love to do so you'll just live with it and it'll be ok' I didn't know how else to handle that.

My son was 5 when he asked what would happen to him if I died... this came on the heels of losing a close family member. He actually told me he wouldn't want to live without me. That above all else was the hardest conversation to have with him to date and he's 8 now. I reassured him that I have made plans in the event that I could no longer take care of him and my other children to be with my sister and her husband. And also that I am young and healthy and strong so it's not likely, but under no circumstances did I promise it wouldn't.

My son asks me who his Daddy is all the time. I couldn't even tell you where his biological father is. Asshole. I just tell him that all families are different. Some kids have a mommy and a daddy, some kids have two mommies or two daddies, and some kids only have a mommy or a daddy. Luckily my boyfriend loves him to death and my son loves him right back. When the new baby is born we're going to sit down with him and explain that just because he doesn't have a biological father doesn't mean he can't have a daddy. So if he wants to...we're going to let him call my boyfriend Daddy. Ugh. Sorry for rambling. It is a difficult question though...

When they asked about their Father.
All of them - the eldest first and then them all seperately or together sometimes asked about their so-called "father" and kept on in subtle ways.
That was hard because the eldest could just about remember deep inside and I had to distinguish between him and Fatherhood generally.
My own Father and brothers were wonderful in helping with this but I still had to bear the brunt.
Sorry - must break now

My niece once asked why 'that lady over there who's smiling at me is fat?' which was a bit embarrassing as we were on the bus at the time!

'Why do we have to do that.....' is a genuinely hard one to answer because normally there is no good reason - just that its the way its always been done.

My stepdaughter asked the other day why my partner's dad don't visit him (he walked out on his mum with 9 children long time ago, he even doesn't remember him). I couldn't answer because the answer: "He's an a......." and my partner just ignored the question =(

Our children asked why people hate so much. We just explained that these are people that when they don't get their way in life or they've been done wrong too many times they resort to hatred.

during the holidays we always volunteered in a soup kitchen or homeless shelter, and my little daughter asked, "mum, if there really is a God, why do these people have nothing to eat, or no presents and clean clothes on Christmas!"
WHAT do you say to that???
