Posting this on R&S because this is where I find the most lively discussions.

I'd really like to have an intellectual discourse with some R&S folks but the "ask a question and wait for the answer" structure doesn't seem suited for that. For example, if I ask a question and get a response to which I in turn want to respond this is difficult. My only real option is to post "details" and address them to that individual and hope they're still around.

I know Y!A is an "answers" forum, not a debate forum but I don't know of a better alternative that brings people of all beliefs together like this one does.

Just curious if anyone else in R&S feels this way...

(Alternatively, I would be happy for someone to point me to an R&S discussion forum where a large number of faiths are represented.)

I think once they figure out how to IP ban and utilize it, it certainly would keep the hate mongers off the site.

Edit: Oh my bad, I guess ya'll love the fact that racists and bashers can come on here and there's no consequence? How silly of me to think that they should be banned permenantly.
Enjoy the hatred. How telling of the TRUE climate of our society.

That is a spectacular idea! And I completely agree that a forum would be nice. Rather than just giving opinion and possibly leaving the asker still in confusion, you could better discuss the question, so that the asker get what he/she is looking for. But I don't think that is the point of this site sadly. People just want to ask unnecessary questions and give unnecessary answers most the time.

Being able to interact more with each other would be cool, especially when you feel like debating a point with some one. Maybe they could tie in Yahoo IM a little more, and give the asker of a question the option of creating a chat room tied to their question. Possibly put a time limit on the chat, so people don't get hung up on one question. Of course this would probably lead to more abuse from trolls.
On the other hand, being able to answer each question only once, and not being able to get into debates (unless you continuously post questions aimed AT some one) is kind of nice. It kind of forces more brain work, as you only get one shot.

This isn't a message board. You need to find a place outside of yahoo answers, if this is the type of dialog you seek. This forum is question and answer. If you wish to speak with someone more in depth, you can email them if they allow it. You're not on a message board or a chat room here. Understand the difference.

To 47: Yahoo used to do user-created chat rooms. They stopped doing it a couple years ago. It would be great to see them come back, though.

To the Questioner:
I actually like the format for what it is.

But if you want to use Y!A as a debate forum, it's not hard either.

One person sets up a question, everyone else debates and posts their best arguments (and they can edit their posts later, if they need to respond to eachother), everyone votes on everyone else's answers, and the person who set up the debate (who shouldn't really be participating anyway) picks the best question.

It happens a lot, actually.

As to your alternative, I don't want to promote anyone's messageboard above anyone else's, but click my source link to get started

you need an email list for that where control can be exercised over who joins and the quality of posting

there are as many Spiritual yahoo groups forums as there are guitar pickers in nashville (12,902) as well as groups on mysticysm, Hinduism, Meditation, etc.

I've tried several of them and had several of my own forums but here I am :-)

I think the structure is fine for what the point of Y/A is about.
Q/A.

If you want to respond back most people that want to do that leave their email open. If they don't they probably only want to hear one side anyhow.

I wish they would find a way to eliminate the trolls.
