I am a Christian and I learn from athiests just what God has already taught us. That unless they are ready to receive from God, nothing we say or do will make a difference, as they dont have spiritual ears to hear, or spiritual eyes to truly see. But, we are stilll commanded to live truth and speak it, as there are a few out there that will receive once they hear. BUt, we are to tell it to them, and walk on and let the Holy Spirit do the job of leading to conviction. BUt, even God doesnt force them. We must simply pray and leave them to God to deal with, knowing we did our part, and go on to the next person we meet. Constantly moving on and speak and living truth, as Jesus did. God tells us all these things, and if we truly see thru the eyes of the Holy Spirit, we see that He is always right on about everything. Yes, God is good. all the time, HE is good.

I have learned...well...

I already knew that there were many moral atheists. I already knew that most atheists are very good, kind people.

But I have learned two things since being on here:
1. Most of the atheists on here are atheists for the same reasons *I* was one.
2. Most of the atheists on here will never understand theists, whether they want to or not.

It goes both ways, of course. Any theist who has only ever been a theist will never understand atheists, either.

Just for the record, I'm neither. I'm a deist making me neither a theist nor an atheist.

Positives:

Theists: I've learned what the power of correctly placed faith can do for a person psychologically. Specifically, many people look to their faith in guiding moral behavior and when they need hope. For individuals, this often leads to what I consider to be "good" behavior so, regardless of its source, I consider it to be a good thing.

Atheists: I've "learned" what rational thought can do for people. (I put this in quotes because I didn't really learn it from atheists, per se, but I still admire it about them.) While theists often adhere to their dogmas in an extreme way, atheists usually embody critical thought more than theists.

Negatives:

Theists: Often adhere to their religious dogma in the face of empirical evidence without providing a direct counter-hypothesis and evidence.

Atheists: Often are arrogant in their belief that they understand the scientific method (some do, some don't) and don't often understand that, while not faith-based, their perspective is itself based on fundamental assumptions about the universe.

Most of my theist knowledge came from real life and experiencing all the religions that I have experienced and knowing people of other religions. In Y!A, I have seen some really nice, patient, devout people, and also some intolerant, unbalanced, hate-filled to the point of being dangerous people and I've learned that the subject of religion really is a hot button, and that it is easy to see how wars can be had over it.

Well I guess I fall into the "theist" category, being a Christian and all.. ;)

I guess one of the main things I've learned from atheists is that they are real people with real lives, real hopes and desires, and they aren't void of all morality as some like to believe. They're as diverse and unique as any other people group, and when I look at them I still see God's masterpiece creation.

(I realize this is kind of a "duh" thing, but for some who have grown up in a faith it can be difficult to see other people this way. That's pretty unfortunate.)

I learned from some theists who are nice that they respect my belief or rather no belief in a god; however, there are some that continue to tell me that I must believe in god and jesus if I am to be saved.
Also I learned that some are not consistent with their answers to questions that Atheists post.

Atheists have nothing to give to theists!

Atheists deny every thing related to faith and belief.

Atheists do not recognize the difference between immaginary Gods created by myths and the spiritual God having 124,000 prophets (Adam to Abraham, Moses, Jesus and finally Muhammad ) as witness of his existance duly supported with thousands of undeniable miracles!!

Atheists should present their evidance for non-existance of God or should accept Holy Books of theists as our evidence - I mean Quran - the last and final word of God.

Atheism is a hidden agenda of Capitalist Society! Their agenda cannot be promoted in religious cultures and societies.

Ignorant people particularly teenagers are being infected by Fre-mind Heros presented on screen media and print media.

An atheist is a proud Monkey!!

Is that all we need to create self-respect, Peace & Harmony in our society??

From some atheists I have learned that even when people say ugly things to me....not to take it personally...because they do not know me. I have learned that it is pointless to argue when someone does not care about what you believe but just wants to harass or belittle you. Actually, to be truthful....I have learned that from some Christians on here as well.

As a Christian, I have learned from atheists to strengthen my presentation and not just spout religious dogma. You have to get them where they're at, and they're not at dogmatic preaching. I've also learned that the best I can hope for is to be given the opportunity to state my case and leave the choice for them to make. Don't try to convert them, DO NOT fall back on the "soul-winner" messages so many churches teach. You have to talk to them on their level, however high or low that may be. That means strengthen your communication skills (speaking and writing!) because if you don't make your presentation intelligently and coherently, they're never, ever, going to take you seriously.

I have learned that the theists range from a tiny minority of the fairly reasonable to a depressingly large majority of the hopelessly irrational.

I have learned allot about different religions, I grew up Christian so my entire childhood is a result of Christianity.

But most tangible, helpful things that I can apply to living everyday have come from non believing Scientists, Doctors, and Philosophers.
