Well, both....but a gentleman's behavior is indicative of his character. Girls wants guys who aren't afraid of being laughed at for opening the door, pulling out a chair, insisting that the lady go in first, walking on the outside of the sidewalk, being protective, and knowing how to treat others well. A southern gent is always in demand.

A gentleman first and foremost shows MUCH RESPECT to a lady. ALL ladies. He's not afraid to say "yes, ma'am". He opens doors for people (not just the girl he is trying to impress.) He goes and checks on his grandmother, just to make sure she's okay and to see if she needs to go to the grocery store or to have her yard mowed. He carries himself with dignity and doesn't engage in shady, lying behavior. He loves his mother and isn't afraid to tell her so.
Boys, it's not about flowers and candy and gifts. It's about being confident enough to open your heart and let someone see the real you. And to make sure that the real you is someone who doesn't lie, cheat, or steal. Someone that is reliable and trustworthy.
And, IN ORDER TO HAVE A GENTLEMAN, A WOMAN MUST ACT LIKE A LADY!!! (Girls who whine about there not being any "true gentlemen in the world anymore" need to check themselves to make sure THEY are holding THEMSELVES to a higher character.)
I think that the fact that you even took time to post this question shows that you are a gentleman. :oD Just continue to be kind, and I think you'll stay on the right track.

Specifically, it means that he's caring, polite, and sweet. I also like a good personality and a sense of humor on the side. Thats pretty much all I require in a guy. But it doesnt exactly hurt if hes got looks too, if ya catch my drift? lmao!

When we say we want a gentleman, we are essentially saying we want a mature, polite, confident, strong and honest man who values us as much if not more than himself. And every woman deserves that man. However, she is more likely to get one like that if she herself can behave according to those qualities. Trashy girls are likely going to attract trashy guys and so on.

A gentlemen is both. Besides you can't have good character without being polite and it would be weird if you were polite but didn't have good character.

A nice guy that makes girls feel good. Or simply, being polite to them and loving towards that other person.

Both, but especially politeness. Just good old-fashioned manners. Respect, not interrupting when someone's talking, not ordering your girl around, chewing with your mouth closed, not being lazy, etc.
