I've been a witch since i was 14, I've been studying on my own all this time, but I want a teacher, who can teach me, I want to know MORE about The Lord and Lady. I can't get enough, I want to learn how to cast a circle, with NO mistakes, I want my Degree, Just because you have a degree does not mean you are a witch, (That I know), I only want a degree, because everytime you get a new degree, you learn something new, or more advanced stuff, that isnt in a book. I wish to learn about sabbats and esbats, magickal correspondences, Etiquette insode and outside the circle/coven, what rules i need to follow. Maybe i could become a priestess one day, maybe to teach new wiccans what i learned in my path. Teach outsiders about our faith,(without trying to convert them) that we are not you see on TV.

I read one of the principles of belief, saying what a true witch is what a true witch isnt, which makes me unsure, if I'm a true witch.
Am I ready for a degree?Am i really a witch?

Why in the world would you want to be a witch. That goes against God and the scriptures. Mmm

Having never had a serious conversation with you, I cannot say if you are a real Witch. To know if *I* think you are a witch, we'd would need to communicate with each other so I have a better idea of where your head is.

You are right, a degree doesn't mean your a witch, that's usually Wicca, a Witch priesthood, that use a degree system. You get a degree when your level of understanding gets to a certain level proving you are READY to learn more, some folks never make it above initiate, some don't want to and are happy just being in the fellowship of those who are called Wiccan.

What kind of witch do you want to be? That is very important, witches are not all the same, not even in the way they cast circles or do ritual.

Cast a circle with no mistakes? m'dear, no Pagan does that, we all make mistakes from time to time, we just correct and move on. Reverence and Mirth

It is quite possible that you have been a Witch since you were 14 or earlier. There are many an untrained Witch running around, most of whom do not know it. There are also sadly a lot of folks running around who think they are Witches and are not.

Your goals are admirable ................................ well the teaching outsiders one I'm not too sure that's what you meant, I think what you meant was inform those not Wiccan about the tenants of our belief, we do not teach outsiders.

I studied as a solitary for many years before I actually
chose a school to do more formal training. I went to www.witchschool.com and am a 1st degree Correllian priestess. I was witch long before I took up the school because it is what is inside that makes you a witch. Also, mistakes do happen, that is how you learn. At the school you can take some basics without joining, and I do know that they have a life-time membership on EBay every so often. This school worked for me, but there are many others out there that offer training and classes, both on and off line. Check them out!

You don't need anyone to tell you if you are a witch. Nor do you need anyones approval. I have been solitary for years and now belong in a group. Most of my stuff has been book learning. The only bonus to being in a group is the way different people interrupt varies ways of doing things. There is no right or wrong way to do any of the things you talked about, nor do you need a degree to be a true witch. Being a true witch is knowing what is in your heart, and living by it the best you can. That is what makes a witch.

One of the things that will help with people taking you seriously is to stop using "witch" and "wiccan" interchangeably. I'm going to copy and paste here from my answer to a previous question of yours:

"We have an objective versus subjective definition issue here. While most pagans will state that anyone has the right to self-identify themselves as a Witch, druid, etc., we question WHY they believe that this self-identification is correct.

Unfortunately, Witchcraft has become so trendy, that truly trained Tradition Witches are woefully outnumbered by the IRAB (I Read A Book) group.

Today we are fighting with too many definitions and new ones being made up everyday. It started with the Wiccans. Once upon a time, there was Gardner and Valiente and there was Alex Sanders - these are the founders of Wicca.

Today some "Wiccans" do not even know the NAMES of these founders and instead say with a straight face that they are from the Looney Tunes tradition or the Star Wars Coven.

Or that "no one can define Wicca for you". ~snort~"

**
If you are serious, the teacher will be there for you eventually. It may take some time, though. You're in a big rush, it's obvious, and you also seem to be asking the same kind of question over and over in hopes of getting a different answer.

If you are serious about learning Wicca or another form of Witchcraft, you will need a teacher; a person who will teach you *in person*. Remain open to that not looking like what you expect.

Let me point out to you that your teacher will have to, as just a few examples: be able to feel energy changes when you do particular things; question you closely about your understanding of something when you do NOT have access to anything you can quote or cut-and-paste; demonstrate the kind of energy that you ought to be raising when you do specific things, etc. NONE of this can be done over the internet. NONE of this can be done in any way but in person.

Patience, dear.

As to your being or not being a "real" Witch, well, that falls back into the subjective vs objective definition thing.

Lots of people call themselves Witches for a variety of reasons. If you want other actual Witches to recognize you as being one of them, you'll HAVE to get yourself trained.

YES, there are rare people who have an instinctive knowledge of how magic works, who have an inborn sense of the divine in nature, and who without any kind of training begin to leave votary offerings and make up their own (effective) rituals. Even these benefit from training.

My name is Doc. I've been a witch since I was 15 though I didn't know it at the time! I''m 63 now! I am Third Degree and I have studied far beyond this as well. I am a High Priest in a small Coven, too. I believe I have the qualifications to answer your question. I take yours seriously.

You have studied on your own. Good!
You seem to have a strong passion for your beliefs. Better!
You do not seem to want to spread your knowledge in such a way as to bring unnecessary attention (spotlight!) to you from others. Even better!
You want to educated outsiders in the proper way. Better yet!
You believe in yourself and that you are a witch. The Best!

Yes, I'd say you are a witch! What is in your heart makes you what you are. Knowledge is a good thing too. But without more personal knowledge of you I can't say if you are ready for a degree, but you are most definitely well started. I'd like to know more about you, if you are willing. I sense that you are still a young person, but age is not much of a limit unless you have disapproving parents. I currently teach people from 12 to 65! Those under 18 have parents who provide written and notarized permission.

Email me at tsbm @ tsbm.org (no spaces). We can discuss this more openly, if you like. You need not give your true name or any other identifying info. If you satisfy my questions, I may be able to offer you training or point you to someone who can.

There is no money involved in this and no kinky deals either! But always be careful with whom you correspondthough the Internet (even me) until you are certain you are safe.

I'm listed on WitchVox under California then Services and then Mentoring - Wicca. I am Stonehawk there. You can reach me through them if you'd rather. [Vox ID: 234571 & Skill ID: 5257]

Hope to hear from you soon.

Blessings,

Doc

I find myself in agreement with Raven's Voice and Black Dragon. I am self taught with the help of my mother (who never claimed to be a witch, tho obviously was one, as was my grandfather and his father before him). And I have been practicing for over 40 years. I have never felt the need to get a degree or the approval of anyone other than the Goddesses and Gods (yes, in my case more than one). Tho I have no degree, I am continually learning and Mother Nature is a willing teacher. Mistakes are a part of learning, and trust me on this one, the Goddesses and Gods are understanding and forgiving. If you really feel you need a teacher ask the Goddesses & Gods to assist you and when it is right, the right person will come along. In the mean time read all you can (but please, avoid Ravenwolf, for a number of reasons). Have you actuallydecided which denomination is best for you? Coven or Solitary? No one but you can say if you truly are a witch or not, I really don't care about the principles of belief as what goes for one person does not necessarily apply to all. ood luck with your quest.

Which witch is which? I don't understand the question. First you call yourself a witch, and then you ask if you're a witch. You want to learn a bunch of things, but then you ask for validation of identity. If you want to learn, there's plenty of places and ways to learn - but that's not what you're asking. Being a witch (or a Wiccan or a Druid or a Shaman) takes more than wearing black makeup - it takes hard work, hard lessons, getting up at 1am because the damn moon is screaming at you through your dreams and won't leave you alone until you listen. Also can mean (if you're incredibly lucky) having people around you that you are tightly connected to that you can always trust with your life, who will call you on your **** and pull you through your pain. But first you gotta commit to it. Having talent for anything is not a substitute for talking to people, doing research, and walking the talk. Sitting around wringing your hands gets you nowhere.

No one can tell you if you are a true witch or not. Too many people have different views on what "true" means. If you follow the pagan religion and are true to your own beliefs then I would say yes. I think it basically comes down to what you believe in yourself. Do not let other people tell you what you are or are not capable of. Study things yourself and find out exactly which path is right for you and then if you still want a mentor on the subject you can find one with the same beliefs as you. Not all pagans have the same views on things. Good luck on your path and may the Lord and Lady help lead the way! Also yes I agree with the other poster that WitchVox is a good source for information~

Merry Meet.

Darling it depends on your path.

Some Pagan/Witch/Wiccan/whatever traditions need degrees et al.

OTOH I've seen people who have self initiated and AFAIC they have as much to claim the label as others. I've studied for over 20 years - still consider myself a student. I'm not the only one to ignore the degree 'structure' & this is a matter of personal choice.

IF you were ment to have a degree, then the Lord & Lady will direct you towards somone. But accept that it might not by yours.

Be safe.
