Where do you live? Generally you can't take your own photos. You need to go to any photographer (even places like camera stores and film developers will do this) and ask for passport photos. They're a very specific size, body frame and background colour. The likelihood of doing your own properly is slim. They're cheap so I say just pay the $10 to get them done properly.

No I don't think that they will let you use your own pictures. There are certain requirements they have to meet:

2x2 inches in size
Identical
Taken within the past 6 months
In color
A head-on, face-forward shot
Taken in normal clothing

Color photo booth vending machine photos are not accepted. Some photo shops and even post offices can take approved passport photos. Check local listings for locations.

The cost is not that much. I think Igot mine done a few years ago for like $10.

The link below has more info on getting your passport.

Depends mainly on the country . The specification of passport size photographs vary from country to country. Some countries even specifies the background color in these photos.
Basic Rules:
Adhere to the guidelines specified.
Get a clear picture.
I would recommend a skilled professional to get the job done, and u dont hav 2 smile :)

I went to my local FedEx-Kinko's store and got them done instantly for $12.95 plus tax.
Trust me - - its worth the few dollars. They have to be identical and a certain size.
Rather than mess it up, pay a few bucks!
