Many expect Jesus to be an instant-on blessings dispencer. When he asks US to do the work, for Him, on an earth full of evil, atheists are not the only ones who say "forget it". Many believers BARELY believe! Going to church doesn't make you a Christian, any more than going to a garage makes you a car.
Jesus was written about outside the bible. Where did the unPope read THAT lie.
Josephus was a famous Jewish historian in Jesus' time, for example, who did not believe in Christ, but SAW him in person, and described his looks! There are more books of that era that mention Jesus than we find books included in the bible...we just don't believe them!
I owned a Josephus book, and enjoyed reading his non-believer's eye witness report on Jesus.
I once owned other so-called "books of Jesus' life", written in his time, including a book describing His life as a child in Egypt (where Jesus was avoiding the bloodthirsty King Herrod, who wanted Him killed).
I reject all such "non-bible" books as NOT "written with the Holy Spirit"; because they were not put into the Bible by the early church!
I guess the unPope's silly argument proves atheists just don't want to hear the Truth of His Word!
If the Bible DID include everything ever written about Jesus, what would that prove???...it would NOT the "inspired" Word of God if any upPope could add a chapter of lies!!!

I bet that atheists would ask the same question. Why aren't Christians open minded to there not being a Jesus. I believe in Jesus, but you have to realize that some people have different beliefs - or no beliefs. You aren't open minded about people telling you that you are wrong, so why would they be? It is the same thing.

I would say that most atheists agree there really was a person called Jesus who lead a religious movement in Israel some 2000 years ago. There is no denying that it was converted by the Romans into a fascist state religion that has become one of the wealthiest and most abusive churches in the world.
But, there is scant evidence that Jesus has magical powers or that God exists. Perhaps none of his followers have enough faith to work miracles anymore, even though Jesus foretold that his followers would perform greater works than he did.

Your logic is hopelessly flawed. You assume that something is true, then berate those who do not agree with you. Open minded merely means considering an issue, not accepting it based on total lack of evidence. Read the following and view the flaw.
Why aren't atheists open minded to the reality of the Invisible Pink Unicorn?
They profess to be open minded but really aren't. The message of the horn is foolishness to those who are
perishing.

Atheists are the most open minded of all religious groups. There simply isn't any evidence for the existence of God or the divinity of Jesus. Don't say that the bible is evidence enough; the bible has been passed down through more than 2000 years of being edited and added to by scribes and scholars with their own anecdotes to tell. The bible has also been mistranslated into other languages and back again. It isn't reliable at all in terms of truth.

What makes you think we're not?
I don't see anything that would indicate that we're not open-minded about the existence of Jesus Christ. If there were any evidence that he existed, I think that it's clear that atheists would consider that evidence as fairly as anyone considers evidence for anything.
Did you notice that all of the closed-minded responses you got were from the believers attacking atheists? Kinda hard to deny the facts when they're laid out in front of you like this, isn't it?

Why aren't theists open minded at all. They don't profess to be, and they aren't. Should they get credit for that. The message of the cross is just too fearful for them to resist.

Maybe they were open minded to the idea, studied what the bible says with an open mind and actually understood what it was saying and CHOSE to not listen to the lies of the christian church. You ignore the teachings of Jesus and follow the words of men so who is to blame for their disbelief? Could it be the church and the followers?
The same could be said about your refusal to believe anything but what your pastor spouts on Sunday.

Well violator of logic.
Many of us were once 'real' Christians, who were very open minded to Jesus Christ. Many of us followed him for years, but in the end, had to follow reason and reality instead.
The Christian belief is nice, but not really rooted in reality. There are too many problems with the doctrine of christianity for it to be truthful.
I now try to save poor people like yourself, from waisting your life, trying to achieve an afterlife, that doesn't exist. Your existence here on earth is all you really have, and using it up, trying to obtain something that doesn't exist is a travesty.
You could be really helping mankind, or through education, helping society learn more and increase the betterment of life for those to come.
That is what non-believing scientists do for you and me everyday. Because of them, we live in sanitory houses, have hospitals and greater life expectancy. We have new technology, that allows us to communicate all over the world and diseases are being combated.
Religion has given us war, and divide, it leads to families breaking up and tries to stop progress in the name of tradition at all turns.
It does provide hope to people, but at the expense of eternal disaster to all those who don't believe. It is very detrimental to society and I hope that you will one day break free.
Best wishes,

Christians say the same things, but how willing are you to accept their claims that God doesn't exist? There's just no middle ground with this. Either you believe He exists or you don't. Agnostics are fooling themselves, but God will deal with them in His own special way and it's not our place to judge anyone. But, while I keep an open mind, and examine everything presented to me, I, like anyone, examine it in light of my particular beliefs. Even if they came to me with irrefutable proof of evolution, I'd fit it in with what I believe about God and amend my beliefs. I'll never reject Him or deny Him (I hope, though Peter was likely much stronger in faith than I and he did). But from where I sit right now, I can't imagine anything so overwhelming that I could just deny the existence of God. If anything it would only serve to strengthen my belief in Him.
