I think uniforms in lower grades are a good thing. Especially for high poverty area have proved to work well. The younger kids have no power over how much money their parents can spend on clothes, and if they don't look like everyone else it isn't just a matter of self esteem...these days kids will get bullied heavily if they don't have the right shoes. Uniforms will eliminate the need to have expensive high fashion items, since most schools require uniforms be purchased by only one or two suppliers. By the time the kids are 14, 15 and in high school, they can get a part time job and buy their own clothes.

In Nashville, TN we have Standard School Attire for all public schools. We do not call them uniforms because then they have to be supplied by the school. All kids PreK thru 12 where khaki, navy or black pants with polo shirts. The shirt colors depend upon the school. This is the first year but the hope is that it will decrease the economic gap among students (designer labels, etc.) and curb behavior problems, which are out of control. Time will tell.

I think uniforms in schools are a great thing, and wish we had that when i was a kid. It would save the hassle of trying to figure out what to wear every day as well as blurring the line between those who have and those who have not and would eliminate the problem of showing gangs, drugs, etc.

At my K-12 school we have to wear uniforms but we have more freedom with it than most schools. We wear green or white polos with khakis. Girls can wear khaki pants, shorts, skirts, etc. That's about the only rule; we can whatever we want for everything else.

No, that's fascism. If they do they should at least be honest and put swastikas or Hammer and Sickles on them. When I was in school if they tried that there'd have been a riot.
