LOS ANGELES - Federal agents raided 10 marijuana clinics Wednesday, the same day city leaders introduced a measure calling for an end to the crackdown on the dispensaries allowed under state law

Keeping in mind that California voters approved medical marijuana sales in 1996. The drug remains illegal under federal law.

I think state rights are being trampled on...and again I think Federal Agents have better things to do...like maybe track and capture terrorists?

Hello?

sigh.

And now, an ultra-conservatives view on marijuana. First, let me state that the agents are only doing their jobs, now having said that, to the real meat and potatoes of the issue. To me, smoking marijuana is no worse than drinking. It's not cocaine, which I hate with a passion, or any other drug. The fed's rationalization of it being a gateway drug could also be applied to alcohol. Proper decent tasting alcohol is hard to make. It takes a master to create it properly and safely. Because of this, it's taxable. Even tobacco is difficult to grow. Both have caused a lot of hardship and pain for a lot of people. Now marijuana, it's fairly easy to grow. If given a chance, you could grow some of the skunkiest weed on the planet just be scattering the seeds on the ground near a decent water source. It will grow wild, as several of my acquaintances have discovered. It will grow in the closet with proper lighting. You can mix the right sweetners and nutrients (they are fairly cheap too by the way) and make it stronger. Since it is so easy to grow, it is difficult to tax. If it were legal, how many people would go out and buy a pack of j's when they could grow better at home. This is the logic as is looked at it by both sides of the aisle. Also for reference, I know way more conservative pot heads than I do liberal ones. Most lib's I know have never smoked themselves a big fat spliff. Anyway, that's my take on it.

To KC V, the drugs you mentioned while working better, tend to have some side effects that are just as bad as being sick. Your research if good, if not complete. What side effects does mary jane have? How about increased appetite and thirst, it kills some brain cells (which the meds you mention also do their fair share of), it causes a noticable change in the perception of time, and people sleep more. My goodness, it's such a terrible thing.

According to the constitution, any law not explicitly covered by the federal government is the territory of the states. Marijuana is outlawed federally, so no states can enact laws that are contrary to it. California was out of line by legalizing Marijuana in the first place, even if it was for medical use and controlled.

To answer your question though: I don't think they had better things to do, I KNOW they did. What a waste of time, and all these people are trying to do is help very sick people. Medical marijuana is not about getting high, I know someone with multiple sclerosis and marijuana did her wonders, she was actually walking again and capable of living a normal life. When she had to give it up because of the law, she was bedridden again.

A Special Agent of the Drug Enforcement Administration is a federal agent. The purpose of the DEA is to raid places that manufacture or grow drugs. So no, they don't have better things to do, they're doing exactly what they should.

Yes, they do. Pot isn't nearly as detrimental to a society as meth is. Why are they wasting tax payers money on busting pot farms when meth labs are everywhere. It's a nationwide epidemic. Meth users are a cancer on the brain of society. They steal from hard working people and trade whatever they steal for meth. I live in Nor Cal and it is a major problem. I personally have had my car stereo amp and a weed eater stolen by these meth users. They ride their bikes around at 3 A.M. and steal whatever they can to pay for their meth addiction. The authorities definitely have higher priorities than pot.

According to the National Cancer Institute, other antiemetic drugs or combinations of antiemetic drugs have been shown to be more useful than smoked marijuana or synthetic THC as "first-line therapy" for nausea and vomiting caused by anticancer drugs.

Examples include drugs called serotonin antagonists, including ondansetron (Zofran) and granisetron (Kytril), used alone or combined with dexamethasone (a steroid hormone); metoclopramide (Reglan) with diphenhydramine and dexamethasone; high doses of methylprednisolone (a steroid hormone) combined with droperidol (Inapsine); and prochlorperazine (Compazine). Research withother agents and combinations is under way to determine their usefulness in controlling chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting.

A number of medications have been shown to be effective for pain control and for HIV-associated wasting, which are among the most frequently cited conditions for which marijuana has been proposed as potentially helpful.

These medications include opiates and anti-inflammatory drugs for pain, while for HIV wasting, the synthetic hormone megestrol acetate, dronabinol and somatropin are FDA-approved. Researchers in government and the private sector are continuing to develop improved methods of treatment for each of these conditions.

There are always those who want to smoke their weed despite what the researchers say is not always the best!

i am all for pot. it helps me with my anxiety problems. plus i suffer from sleeping disorders as well and all. i have nightmares and prolly only get 3 hours of sleep max. and thats bits and pieces. the only thing that helps it is weed.

benefits of weed:

1. it doesnt make you fat
2. it doesnt make you forget who you slept with the night before (if it does than that shztnitz was darn good)
3. it doesnt give you diseases (unless it was the kind you smoked above)
4. it makes everyone get along
5. its socialble (that was for pure funnyness)
6. it makes you better if you are in pain (eye diseaese)
7. all natural (unless grown with extra funk)
8. really good when smoked out of an apple (trust me i tried)
9. better than crack because you dont lose teeth
10. anything grown on earth is simply a plant so whats the big deal

ok so im joking some with this whole thing, but bust the crackheads and murderers.... who cares about pot. seriously!

It's amazing they can pick and choose what laws to enforce...how about knocking down some doors and drag away some illegal aliens...or would that require more paperwork.
But you're right that states rights may be trampled on...why haven't the feds tell the states that their own laws on gun control are not allowed?
This whole country is screwed up when it comes to laws and punishment...there is no consistency.

How do you think terrorists get drug money...from drug sales.
Federal agents are in many divisions covering many facets of law enforcement.

Don't you have anything better to do? If you care so much, go do something about it.

There are no good guys in the federal government, and they were and are out of their jurisdiction if anyone would bother to challenge it. I would just do like the police do and shoot first then ask questions about there jurisdiction! I don't care if you are the police, you come in my house with guns drawn and someone is going to get shot, and a bullet proof vest won't protect you in my house, I aim for the head, and I never miss!
