I'm going for a week to Bodrum on Aug6th and will be buying all food (it's self catered) + need money for excursions / shopping / etc.

If I allow £25 per day will that be enough / too much?
I'm not sure of prices in Turkey.

Also some places online suggest 50p = a million New turkish lira and other sites suggest a more even exchange rate, I'm very confused!

Hi,

When I travel I always set my daily budget to the cost of the Hostel bed * 3 or 4.

I backpacked around Turkey (I took the awesome, brilliant Fez Bus tour) for a month, and in Bodrum I stayed at the Bodrum Backpackers in a 4 Bed Mixed Dorm with Ensuite bathroom for £6 a night...multiply that by 3 or 4 and that's a reasonable budget.

so £20 to £30 a day for food, drink, and other stuff should be ample ...

Turkey is a great country, shame you'll see only a little of it...

Have a good holiday!

Philip

Considering that I budgeted 50-60 YTL per day and had ample when I travelled in Turkey, you should be fine with your 25 GBP. Just don't expect 4-star hotels or similar, be content with a clean hostel bed, taking the bus over flying, buying fruits and bread at the supermarket and you will be able to dine out once in a while and have no problem paying for the entry fees to sites.

If l were you l would allow £50 per day because once you see the bargains on clothes etc you will not be able to resist buying, plus if you want to go on trips you will need enough money to cover them.
I am not saying you will spend £50 per day but it is always better to take more money than you think you may need just in case of any emergency that may crop up, instead of worrying that you have to watch your spending
Have a fab holiday

Hi Alice,

I agree with Fahri (Leprechun)

In additional;
You said '50p = a million New Turkish Lira'
This is wrong,
50p = 1.25 YTL (New Turkish Lira)

No need confused ...

No you have the wrong info.

1GBP = 2,5 new TL

so 25 GBP= 62,5 new TL. It is not very much and not very few. But of course it depends on your activities,what are you planning to do to consider if it is enough or not.

But if you want to go shopping etc. don't think it is enough.

If you self catere 6-12p is enough for three meals,I think.

The rest of the money should be enough for the rest of the day,including two pints a day.

enjoy your time in Turkey

ciao
