Above is the latest article relating to obesity, yet nothing in there really tells you how you are supposed to eat. Everything I've seen suggests a different specific type of diet, but not what you should do to begin with.

Does anyone know what a healthy person really should be consuming? What's a workout that everyone should be doing?

I'm not looking to lose weight, but I am curious (and I know I'm not the only one) what the "healty" things are to do and eat.

All the new studies come from the fact that the number of young children that are now deemed 'obese' is rising steadily and also with all other age groups.

Healthy foods would consist of:

* High fibre cereal and skim or low fat milk
* Fruits
* Ryvita style crispbreads with a variety of toppings
* Fish
* Lean white meats
* Lean red meats
* Rice
* Wholegrain breads and cereals
* oh and drink water
* reduced the amount of processed sugars and saturated fats
* steamed vegetables

Of course exercise is also required but these days with computer use on the increase with children and the increased dangers to younger kids, playing in the park all day, riding bikes all day etc has decreased.

A recommended website which lists recommended dietary intake for adults and children is:

and for physical activity

Eat only when hungry and not more than thrice a day. Nothing other than water in between. Include plenty of uncooked vegetables and fruits in each meal, preferably 50%. Chew each morsel at least 32 times to activate ur body to generate signals of hunger/fullness. Obey these signals.

Take light exercises and brisk walks regularly preferably twice a day.

U will achieve what u have not even dreamt and that too in a reasonable time. Do not be in a hurry.

I'm not sure how many solutions you're expecting. There are two reasonably healthy ways to lose weight:

diet and exercise

surgery (plus diet and exercise)

We've been told in school since we were children what healthy foods are...and it's blasted everywhere that we need at least 30 min of cardio at least 3x per week. Don't most people know that fatty foods, fried and greasy and sugary things are not the healthiest options?

I think advice on how to fix the problem would have been a good addition to that article. Maybe they just assume you can find that information elsewhere.

I rely on www.webmd.com for info on a healthy lifestyle. They give you information on what to eat, exercise, and have wonderful weight loss tips.

A healthy diet consists of veggies, fruits, whole grain breads and pastas, and lean sources of protein (skim milk, eggs, meat that is not fried, light cheese and yogurt, etc). These should be the staples, anything else is a treat or had in moderation.

As for exercise, it is recommended we get at least 30 minutes of moderatly intense exercise every day. To keep your body in top physical condition, a combination of cardio (running, swimming, walking, dancing, etc) and weight training are recommended.

Well, achieving a healthy lifestyle is a fairly simple concept. I don't think it's that strange that there are new studies on obesity but not many solutions.

Obesity can be a result of many different kinds of factors...an example being the one you posted.
There is one simple solution to obesity. Diet and exercise.
It's been around for so long that we don't need anymore solutions.

Unless you have certain medical problems, exercise 30 minutes a day at least 3x a week and eat as "natural" as possible- the less processed, the better. Reduce your caloric intake. And get plenty of rest.
