But to answer your question, it probably is possible to have an atheist without God, if you take atheist to be the literal meaning of "lack of belief in deities." Then, as long as there aren't deities (which no one can know) we are all born atheists, and socialized religious. But if there are deities, then obviously atheists are not necessary to their existence. :)

Interestingly, Crowley forsook his atheism long enough to channel Thelema [from Rabelais, in reality and Horus, by his claims].
But Crowley's having said what he said something certainly carries as much authority as anyone else saying anything else.
