Not everyone is christian. I am not so I know there are a few out there. Personally I feel Same Sex marriage should not be banned for multiple reasons. First the law should not be allowed to say whether someone can marry someone they love or not whether its same sex or heterosexual. Secondly what does it hurt anyone else? they arent asking anyone else to get under the covers with them so why does everyone have such a hissy about it. stop trying to force your religion on everyone else. Thirdly Noone should have an issue with it as long as the couple is willing to deal with the same stuff when they get a divorce (ie Alimony, seperating belongings, etc.). Unfortunately every christian out there feels that everyone else should be christian and if not they will persecute them. This question really opens up a can of worms. lol I wish everyone would just accept everyone else for being individual. And I am not gay so thats not my motive behind arguing the case. I am just not prejudice!!

A marriage comes in two steps. First, there is the personnal committment before God (if they believe), family, and friends. Then there is the secular contract requiring a license. In some cases family and friends can't honor the vows; it seems a rather selfish choice on their part, but that shouldn't negate the possibility of a legal contract.
The idea that marriage as a sacrament is predominently a means of insuring children will be raised in specific familial beliefs. It's also a contract tying land and holdings between two families. Those systems of family connections are not necessarily appropriate in today's society. However, the legal issues are more and more complicated.
A 'marital' contract between two people today may allow partners to collect insurance benefits, social security, own property together, adopt children, and exercise the same rights and priveledges of heterosexual marriages. I think that's only right. When two people chose to share their lives, they should be allowed a contract that protects them and allows them the equal standing with other legally committed couples.

Well first off homosexuality is genetic..hence God made them that way..hence of you oppose people being the way God made them then you hate+despise God and will burn in Hell with Satan.
Second, The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in Santa Fe vs. Doe 3/29/2000 "Fundamental rights may not be submitted to vote; they depend on the outcome of no elections". Basically the US Supreme Court ruled it is illegal and unconstitutional to forbid rights by a vote. So we cannot legally or morally ban it.
For the people who yell about how it's a sacrilege I would say maybe they should focus their attention of the millions upon millions of marriages that end in divorce, the sham weddings of celebrities like Brittney Spears as PR stunts as they do FAR more damage to the institution of marriage then 2 gay people.
For those who say marriage is about reproduction..WRONG. Nothing in any legal vow says that tyou will promise to breed and in fact sterile straights can marry..hence the argument that lack of reproduction is reason to ban is invalid.
For those that say God is against it I would ask..Tell you that itself did it? Came down from on high, sat down next to you and said "You I love everyone+everything but gays cannot marry"? And don't use the bible, because if you do then explain to me while slavery is wrong, why we cannot stone people to death for working the sabbath, etc. You can't say bible is ironclad law..but only when you agree with it. The bible is a book written by men that occasionally deals with God. It is NOT the word of God or even God inspired.
Joey Micheals> Um...maybe you should ask some sex questions in the relationship room and then come back and edit your answer.

I'm all for it. I mean, I don't ask what you do behind closed doors so why should I ask what a gay person does behind closed doors? Either way, I couldn't care less. Luckily, gay marriage is legal in Canada and has been for a few years. There's absolutely no reason to ban gay marriage.
I think being against it because your religion doesn't believe in it is silly. I'm vegetarian but just because I don't believe in killing animals for food it doesn't mean I'm going to push this law on everyone else who wants to eat meat. Stop fighting it in countries (like the states) where it's not legal and let them do their own thing. It's not hurting you.
Some people say it's "against god's law" but what about those of us who don't believe in god? Or, others say marriage was made for a man and a woman to reproduce. I have no desire to ever be pregnant - does that mean I shouldn't be allowed to get married just because I won't reproduce with my husband? That's a pretty poor reason.
Also, to the person who said "marriage is in a church..." Well, I'm not religious, I don't belong to a church and I have no desire to get married in one. My wedding will not take place in a church and my marriage will not be guided by the church. According to a lot of what's been said in this thread, I shouldn't even be allowed to get married for a number of reasons!

I don't think it is the place of the goverment to restrict something like this... Love in whatever form is a good thing and really isn't a legal matter. Marriage is again a matter of expression of love (in my opinion) and I guesse a legal and binding contract to become responsible for eachother financially and hopefully emotionally. But it isn't a matter that potentially causes the general public harm so it really shouldn't be restricted by the goverment. There lol.... that is what I think.

Well, it certainly raises the question of how something which is identical to marriage can be treated differently from a marriage. Is my marriage to my wife a marriage, or is it identical to marriage as defined by the State, and so unconstitutional? Personally I fell the law should be enforced, all marriages since 2005 revoked, and let the People know just how screwed up it is to deny someone marriage.

no. I think that anyone that is in love should be able to marry and be a couple. I am married to my loving wife and love her to death. But I think if for nothing else the US Constitution gives them the right to do it. I know some same sex couples and They are as in love as me and my wife are. I have done several same sex commitments. they could not marry in Texas so they still do the wedding but don't get the legal form. That is unfair.

Same sex marriage should be banned becoz to me its sin.In the first place God made man and woman not man & man. Why do people want to creat their own things. The Bible says 'a man shall live his parents and marry,be united with his wife.
If God wanted it to be that he wouldn't have created a woman, when he knew a man could be of more help to a fellow man than a woman.OR vise verser

I don't care who gets married. I think if 2 adults love each other and want to live committed lives, let them. It's not like banning gay marriage prevents gay couples from living together as if they are married...so what does a ban accomplish?

It should not be banned. In my opinion that is a form of discrimination and people in the future will look back at how ignorant this time is; the same way we look back on slavery, or not allowing woman the right to vote. Ridiculous and closed minded.
