You're wasting your time. You didn't have an argument; you broke up. If you want lots of drama in your life, then disregard my advice.

If you ever smoked cigarettes and tried to quit, you may get an idea of how it is to break a relationship. It's hard to do.
If you feel you want him back, step back and take stock of yourself and your real feelings. Do you both just miss the sex part of your relationship? This almost never ends good. Forget that. What were the reasons you divorced or separated? Keep asking yourself and reaffirm those reasons. Don't be a chump and be friends with this guy who obviously misses the free sex. You may miss it also but the consequences are just not worth it. Go on with your life and forget this guy or your life will be a living hell...believe me.

I see three possibilities...
1. He wants to be friends so that he has the chance of benefits, even if they are not available now. One thing often leads to the next...
2. He is still in love with you and is trying to get you back.
3. He is obsessive and wants to keep track of you and meddle in your affairs.
If you think the answer is #2, and you feel the same, then great! Otherwise, I would be very wary of being friends with him. This is exactly how women get taken advantage of.

Guys (Sometimes) have no problem being just friends with an ex.
But, it could also be just another excuse for him to leave the relationship, without feeling like he's totally hurting you. It sounds easier to say, "Let's just be friends"
Than to say, "We need to break up with each other"
See? Some guys like to be on good terms with their exes, because it means there's no bad word spread about them.
If you feel like your feelings will get in the way, the just avoid him all together.
My experience with that is, it makes it harder to get over them if there's still communication.

I think you need to respect your ex's wishes and stop treating his emotions as an obstacle to your emotional needs. By giving him the space he needs he comes back to you because he wants to be with you and not because you think he is just delaying the inevitable. You could try something radical and tell him that you have too strong a feeling for him to just be friends, instead of your 'stealth approach, lol'. There is no shame in love.

I think cut the strings...let him go if you want him back...maybe he will see that the grass is not greener on the other side of the fence...I think he wants you,and to play the field too.
You should not be available at the drop of a hat...show him you also have a life...go out with other friends,,date other people..my God don't hang on to him..I've wasted a whole year doing that!
