Major power plants have positions for mechanical (and electrical) engineers to manage or supervise efficient plant operation, test plant operations and equipment, redesign the plant when identical components cannot be obtained to replace worn out items, issue or review required plant operation reports, oversee maintenance programs and ensure plant safety.

Yes, Mechanical engineer can work in power plants because mechanical engineer having deep knowledge of fluid machines, steam power plants (applied thermodynamics) & basic electrical engineering, design of boiler. So he can be work at his best efforts to increase overall efficiency of power plant & also can solve problem regarding plant maintenance
He can be work there depending upon his experience

1) Technical Engineer :- Job-- Solution of problems regarding boiler, economizer, superheaters, maintenance (steam power plant) & turbine (Hydroelectric power plant)

2) Design Engineer :- Design of power plant.

3) Plant Manager :- Having authority of making decisions about plant.

power plant is basically a mechanical job in technical sense and an engineer has to do all the jobs releated to it. this hasa wide scope and has many of mechanical engineers employed thru it.his work maybe releated to maintaince power production and many other.

Maybe with a power plant manufacturer, don't see much role at a power plant once built. Over qualitfied.
