it would all depend on HOW untidy it is and if i could really get away with not answering the door.

i mean, they would see my car in the driveway...so, they would know that i was home.

i would probably answer the door and say something like "oh, what a nice surprise. please excuse the mess, i would have cleaned up a bit if i knew you were coming"
this implies that they were rude for not calling ahead and just dropping in on you and kind of takes you off the hot spot for having a bit of a mess.

tkae care:)

I think you should answer the door, considering they came from 20 miles away. They came for you not to critizize your house. If they start complaining about the untidiness of your house verbally, then you can start throwing them out.

Personally, my visitors are used to seeing my house looking like a tornado struck, so I'd open the door and sit them out on the back verandah, lol.

But sure, you don't have to open the door at ANY time unless you want to.

If these folks didn't let you know they were coming, you are not under any obligation to receive them.

Best wishes ;-)

If there your good friends there not gonna judge you on your untidy home. I would open the door and let them in. Maybe they needed to use the bathroom. I think its rude not to answer the door. Sometimes unexpected guests are best.

It is your door. On your house. You have a perfect right to not answer the door if that is your wish. Even if they came from Jupiter. It is rude to drop in unannounced that way.

that sounds like a poor reason for being inhospitable. I would not answer the door for other reasons, but not that one. Anyway, my house is usually untidy anyway, and they deserve to see the real me.

It depends how your culture is. Basically if the visitors invited them self to come to your house, it is up to you, if you would open and let them come in to your house or not. Do not feel guilty about it.

It's up to you as to whether or not to answer the door. But they did drive 20 miles to see you. Invite them in and apologize for the 'mess'. That's what I do.

I absolutly hate it when people show up unannounced. If it was my grandparents or someone like that, it's a little different, but I make sure they know that we sleep in on Sat and Sun. and we dont want to be woke up.

i can accept it.. if your house is really untidy..
it is OK..
and we can talk somewhere else..
but if you are fooling the visitors..
i think this is so unacceptable act for me..

that's my opinion..
