Jehovah's Witnesses do not celebrate birthdays because birthdays have pagan origins, and 100% of the birthday celebrations mentioned in the bible were by debauched enemies of God (See Mark 6:17-29; Gen 40:19-22).

Each Witness decides for himself whether a particular activity constitutes "celebrating" a birthday, but many or most Jehovah's Witnesses would likely believe that attending a birthday party is "celebrating".

Parties that are not pagan in origin or unwholesome in nature are perfectly acceptable to Jehovah's Witnesses. Many or most Witnesses are happy to celebrate a newborn's birth, a wedding, a wedding anniversary, a retirement, a graduation, a 'going-away', and a reunion (for example).

Celebrating birthdays is not forbidden in the bible. It was the men at Headquarters that decided to ban it amoung JWs. There are many things that should be left to a person's conscience that the Governing Body has decided to make it's own rules about. In effect this takes away the ability of JWs to train and excercise their own consciences.

It is one of the most hardest things for many children to deal with when growing up in a JW family and then to learn that the bible does not forbid celebrating birthdays is deplorable.

It would appear that the reason they banned birthdays was so that they would be noticed as different by other people and the sad thing is that they use the children to advertise this message.

Do Jehovah's Witnesses go to birthday parties?

No.

Do Jehovah's Witnesses have parties? Do they go to parties?

Yes. All the time. I am always throwing parties. Folks have a ball and cannot wait for the next one. And I go to parties as well. I have a ball and cannot wait for the next one.

Hope that helps you out there.

if you where a Jehovah Witness, you would know this answer. we do go to parties, but not birthday parties. definition of birthday taking for the reasoning book. the day of one's birth or the anniversary of that day. in some places the anniversary of one's birth, especially that of a child, is celebrated with a party and the giving of gifts. not a biblical practice.

Jehovah is God's name, first of all. (Jesus' father)
I'm not a Jehovah's witness, but I know they can't celebrate birthdays or holidays, yet they can attend certain parties.

Can you do unBiblical things while proclaiming yourself a Christian, sure, but why would you want to??

In other words, humans can do what is humanly possible, whether or not you should is a whole other matter.

They celebrated birthday's and Christmas for many years..until they got new light ..so maybe one day some more new light will come forward and they will once again be able to. but at the moment they do not celebrate birthdays.

Why do I get thumbs down? I didn't say anything but the truth..
Did you not celebrate Christmas and Birthdays at one time? Yes you did..Did you stop because of New Light? Yes you did..Do you keep getting new Light? Yes you do..constantly ..

Why do you celebrate Anniversaries? They are not mentioned in the Bible as something to celebrate..I bet the pagans celebrated them as well..Why do you go to parties..that is not something that the Bible states that you can do..I bet pagans had parties all the time..

Not sure if you can or can not by the rule of your faith.

BUT as social norms to witness at a birthday party is (at the least) bad taste (at the worst) highly offensive.

I recommend you curb your faith in such social settings.
