I went to a local store that shal remain nameless, to buy some ammo for an AK-47. Lets for the purpos of the story pretend that an AK-47 isn't taboo, and continue on shal we? This store sells many things, not just firearms. They have clothing, shoes, camping goods, some food, etc. The AK ammo was on sale, so I wanted to buy some. I enjoy plinking at the range. (shooting cans and such) On the recept, it read "7.62x39 Ammo $4.00". The line under that read, "Back To School Sale". I had a cheap laugh at this. I'm SURE there was no ill intent. it was simply a minor over site. In case it isn't odvious, this perticular ammo just happened to be part of a school shooting recentailly. this is why the "joke" is so taboo. is it wrong to have a cheap laugh at this oversite?

First of all, what's so taboo about the AK-47, it's a chunk of wood and metal. But that's just some good 'ol satire. I work at a local gunshop/range, not doing anything fun just mostly grunt work like mowing grass, picking up shells, you know the stuff they don't want to do. We have a little sign on the cash register that says, "THE SECOND AMENDMENT: KEEPING AMERICA SAFE FROM TERRORISTS, COMMIES AND DEMOCRATS." You would not believe how many people get pissed off about it. Every week we have about 4-5 people storm off cussing us out because of it. Take a freaking joke.

Its just a coincidence and I could understand a brief laugh or smile over it. The store has their register setup to print this on all there reciepts, because this is the back to school part of the year. It wouldn't have mattered if you bought ammo, pencils, a soda, whatever.

I wouldn't get too excited over it, but I can almost guarentee if you send it to "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" I bet it would end up on tv in his jokes. I wouldn't take offense because laughing at this generalization in their reciept printing doesn't mean that you believe a school should get shot up, it just means you can appreciate irony. Anyone who can't see the irony and atleast crack a slight smile is just too uptight and has a stick in their rearend.

Guns and ammo are just tools.

It seems "Back to School" has become a cheap commercial holiday by America's retailers. They move from one holiday season into the next, so it's no big deal.

Actually, some of my shooting friends at the range have more time to shoot once the kids get back to school.....so maybe there is something to it!

That is funny. When I almost joined the army I thought it was funny that all the ARMY stuff they gave me typically had "made in china" some where. I still have a key chain that says "Be an Army of One" and right below that it says "made in china". My recruiter didn't think it was funny when I asked how china would make me an army of one, lol. On the VA Tech thing. Guns aside(I love guns don't get me wrong) but why wasn't at least one person involved in that armed with mace or pepper spray. One person with a little can of spray could have ended that a lot sooner. There were heroes that day that sacrificed themselves to save others, but to think that one little 10 dollar can of mace could have done a lot more with less loss of life. I don't have hours to argue that a law abiding licensed to carry student could have done more I feel that emphatically. But to all the anti gun people out there, one can of mace, one tazer, and one heroic student or teacher could have saved a lot of lives. Why do mace, and pepper spray or tazers have to be banned from schools too? I think that it should be mandatory for students to be ISSUED mace or pepper spray. It's obvious that the police or campus security can't/ won't protect them!!!

There are times in life when you as an individual should speak up. Obviously there was an error on the stores part. Perhaps if you had made a point of telling someone in management at the store, it could have been rectified.

Problem is you posted it on a public website. Now some self righteous greedy gun hater is gonna use this as ammo for causing problems.

I gotta wonder about just how together your head is. Talking about this and your AK47 on a site that millions of people read. This stuff about amenity is a farce. If someone wants to know who is behind the id they will find out. Another thing. The FBI and the CIA are monitoring the Internet. I suspect word like AK47 are in their key phrases. So, don't be shocked if someone in a blue suit comes knocking at your door.

I think it is funny. Some may take the over sensitive view and say it is sick, but they are entitled to their own opinion, just as I, or you are.
For $4 you can't beat the price, and the "Back to school sale", although stranegly ironinc, was probably just a way to ring in the discounted price. If some want to read into it, them let them over react.

It is this same hypersensitivity which is threatening our rights as individuals, (including our second amenedment rights), immigration, and many other issues of our country today. If they can't take a joke, then screw 'em.

It's a chuckle of sorts. Am I the only one here old enough (or country enough) to remember this?: In my day, school and dove season began at the same time, and half the cars in the school parking lot contained a shotgun and a few boxes of new (paper-hull) shells. Nobody thought there was anything unusual or dangerous about it, that was just the way it was. And a lot of those shotguns were bought mail-order, no FFL required. God, I'm getting old.

Sounds like K-Mart. LOL. I think a cheap laugh isn't a big deal. Remember, it's the messed up kids/society that is the problem, not the ammo.

What shooting recently? The sicko korean kid used 9mm pistols; there were no AK's at all. I am sure that the store you were at had the same information about back to school sale printed on every sales receipt for tennis shoes to you name it. You are right in that a misconstrued joke could be made of it however. Sort of like the cop who says have a nice day after writing you a ticket.

That's great stuff! That was almost as funny as the "Dr. Domores" tooth brush that actually had "Proven to prevent plague" posted on the side of the box!
