Must Do:

1. must have a NY style Pizza (go to famous Rays; there are many in the city)
2. must view the city from the observation deck at the Empire State building or the Top of the Rock at Rockefeller Center or both (especially at night; the view is spectacular)
3. must go to central park
4. if you are a kid at heart and want to do the piano scene from the movie "big" go to FAO schwartz.
5. if you are a kid at heart and want to see a dinosaur, the empire state building made from legos or ride the ferris wheel, go to the toys r us on 44th st and broadway
6. must go to the statue of liberty
7. must go to Ground Zero
8. must do one of those bus tours
9. must take a picture with the Naked Cowboy (he's usually in Times Square in tidy whities
10. must have Juniors cheesecake
11. Must have a Nathan's Hotdog at Coney Island.

don'ts

1. don't take a cab; too expensive. Use public transportation; its cheaper
2. don't stand in the middle of the sidewalk. NYC is a very fast pace town. if you need to stop and say tie your sneakers step to the side.
3. don't assume all NYers are rude. NYers are quite pleasant and helpful

thats all I can think of with the don'ts.

Do's

1. do a carriage ride in central park
2. do a Broadway show
3. do go to Madame Toussands and Ripley's believe it or not
4. do a tour of Grand Central Station; trust me its worth it.
5. go to Coney Island in Brooklyn and ride the wonder wheel
6. do take a ferry ride to governor's island or staten island (its free and you can get great shots of Lady Liberty)
7. do go to a Yankee or Mets game.
8. take a walk over the Brooklyn Bridge.
9. do enjoy the street shows
10. do enjoy a meal at any of NY restaurants.

Have a great trip of the city

DO:
+ Be aware of your surroundings
+ Walk whenever you can, it's the best way to travel around the city
+ Ask for directions if you need them, people will be HAPPY to help you
+ Go to any tourist attractions EARLY
+ Take one of those giant red buses to get a sense of where everything is, plus it's only $30 for a day and you can hop on and hop off ALL DAY LONG.
+ Walk OUT of the way, over to a building if you need to look at a map
+ Dress appropriate: It's going to be HOT... make sure you're prepared and wear comfortable shoes

DON'T:
+ Stop in the middle of the sidewalk, ESPECIALLY if you're in a group...nothing is more annoying
+ Walk around ALONE late at night, if you feel uncomfortable in a certain area, there's probably a reason
+ Don't take any of the little papers that people will try to hand out to you on the street
+ Don't flash your money or your wallet

MUSTS are a matter of taste...although I think the Red Tour Buses are a GREAT way to see TONS of stuff...it passes everything you'll want to see and it goes all over the city....

Good luck and enjoy!

1. New Yorker's (and I'm not talking about transplants from other states who's been living in New York for 10+ years and call themselves "New Yorkers") don't b*llsh*t. Be direct and to the point (but not rude about it).

2. New Yorkers are about their business and unlike L.A. we are brutally honest and we'll tell you if we're/your full of sh*t. That way, there's an understanding and no mistakes.

3. We love the Yankees and Mets. Why? They are from New York.

4. We have the best pizza in The U.S. (although Chicago has the best kick-*ss deep-dish pizza I've ever tasted).

5. New Yorker's are friendly, in spite of what other people from outside New York say. I've heard all the nick names about New York:

Babylon. Hell on Earth...just to name a few. It's all crap. The one thing about New York...you can make anything and do anything you want and make a living in/on it. The one's who criticized are the one's that failed. New York can be a tough bird, but respect the game and she'll help you flourish.

6. Ride the subway. You won't ever go to a city like New York and see people from all walks of life from all over the world and the subway is accessible to damn-near any place you want to go, 24 hours a day.

7. We have some of the best sites in the world. Take it in stride and soak up the atmosphere. Don't rush it. This city has a talent for showing/having something you've thought of or never seen. The city is full of surprises.

8. Head out to Central Park. At this time, there are free concerts and events you may want to attend. It's a fun place to meet people.

9. Go to Harlem and stop by SYLVIAS on 126th street. One of the best soul-food joints in town (but tell them to ease up on the salt when you order).

10. Have FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
