Ok folks, I thought it would be understood that the auto death penalty is based on court procedings and the person is found guilty. Being in an accident where a Police Officer is killed is not the same as being pulled over and you come out guns blazing and kill a cop. My point of view is that a Police Officer on duty, is representing Law Enforcement, so when someone shoots a Cop, they are demonstrating a lack of respect for the Law. And if someone is willing to kill a Cop in that fashion, then its safe to say that the law abiding citizen will be at risk as well.

The NYPOST article says "The feds won't try to get the subhumans the death penalty"..... I'm not really sure how the Feds would be involved, but it seems it was possible to try to get the death penalty in this case. If anyone has any insight on this, please share. Thanks!

It should be up to the DA to decide if the death penalty is acceptable. No one can make a blanket rule and expect it to pass. Look at the things Congress has tried to mandate in a blanket rule.
Being a uniformed officer, there are times when yes, death penalty is demanded, especially when its a gang banger who is out to kill a cop, or anyone for that matter. We need justice to be fair across the board, and not like Paris Hilton with her " Your rich and have a get out of jail card" when there are thousands of poor people who don't have that card.

I believe that any police officer that gets killed in a traffic stop probably deserves what he gets, there are a lot of prick cops out there and I would consider shooting one of them without hesitation if I was in the right and the officer was being a prick, as far a NY state goes they don't have a death penalty there as it should be. I believe that self defense against the police is my first line of defense, I say F the police they never did one single thing for me yet, and I don't expect them to ever, I don't call the police when I can shoot someone myself, a permamant limp is justice in my book, a person with a permanant limp will remember every step they take that they messed with the wrong person! I was assaulted by the police when I reported my house had been broken into, when I told them that the only thing they didn't take were my guns they slammed me up against the wall and searched me and acted like I was the criminal, F that, there won't be a next time I assure you!

No, I don't think so. As a cop, I would rather see them get life in a maximum security prison without ever having the possibility of parole. Running a case through and getting the death sentence only means he's punished for 8-15 years before he dies. It depends on the state.I would rather leave this world knowing he'll remeber his actions for a L O N G time, say 65 years or so.

Anybody willing to kill someone else has probably given up on their own life; they won't care if they get the DP. If they are that nuts, what's the point?
The death penalty also sets off the left wing wailers and then we are all tortured because we have to listen to them. And listening to them is worse than the murder itself.
What if they're innocent?
Just send them to prison for life.

Yes, I believe that the death penalty would be appropriate. And in a state without the death penalty, life without parole.

I didn't think they had the death penalty in New York. However, cop killers are basically anarchists who murder, so the sentence should definitely be more harsh. I'm not a fan of the death penalty . . . so it's hard for me to answer you question directly.

I believe that people who kill police officers deserve the death penalty. Police officers are our first line of defense against the rotten people in life. They are, for the most part, unsung hero's.

...No... if someone is convicted of murder (a police officer in particular)... "they" should be sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole and placed in a prison-cell alone with out any comforts... fed once a day, showered one a week with a cold water hose and never ever allowed to hear human voices again, just sit in a cell...till they die.

It depends. What if a driver ran a red light and hit a police car in an intersection. The driver of the police car dies. That is not a capital offense.
