I often fold my side mirror. Is there any need to use it more than the rear view mirror?

Yes there is definitely a need for them, as long as you have them adjusted properly. They are not intended to be used as rear-view mirrors.

It is incorrect to aim your side mirrors to show the view directly behind you. That's what the rear-view mirror is for. Side mirrors are for viewing the lanes adjacent to your vehicle, just as if you were driving a truck, van, or bus with no rear view at all.

Once you get used to using them properly, you won't want to be without them.

So, you don't use your side mirror.....hmmmm, do you use your shoulder checking to take the place of it?
Side mirrors can check your lane position and also things you may not be aware of.
Shoulder checking ensures there is no one in your blind spot (mirrors can't view this area).....and if you shoulder check WHILE you are making a lane change or turn, you may see who you are about to hit (grin)....
Side mirrors are part of your equipment and should be used to enhance your driving safety factor. You can quickly glance in these side mirrors without actually turning your head and taking your attention away from the road ahead.
Sometimes at night I admit that I turn that left side mirror down a bit to prevent becoming blinded by lights of drivers behind me (on the high speed roads).
All in all, I use all the mirrors to give me information.........just like the gauges on your dash........

if there was no need for them they wouldn't be on the cars.
by the way if you fold in both mirrors it is illegal you have to a side mirror on the driver side in addition to either a rear view mirror or a passenger mirror

Of course you should. Mirrors are there for a reason. The each give a different angle of the view behind. How do you manage parallel parking or reversing around a corner?

It is particularly important as you may not be able to see motorcyclists without using your right-hand mirror nor will you be able to see cyclists without your left-hand mirror

Yes. Adjusted correctly, the side mirror(s) will help you see in the blind spots alongside and behind your vehicle. It's still best to give a quick glance before you change lanes, though, since even side mirrors do not let you see everything behind and alongside.

it is more referred as rear view mirror than that of side mirror.

it is extremely useful to monitor & concentrate on drive while getting the picture of the style, speed & nature of the vehicle coming closer to you from behind.

as the rear view mirror give perfect view of the traffic following you, it absolutely avoids your effort to keep turning back & getting disturbed from the lane & pace of your driving

Why would you do such a dumb thing? You will always have a far larger blind spot doing that. Didn't you pay attention in driver's ed? THE REAR VIEW MIRROR DOESN'T SHOW WHAT IS COMMING UP BESIDE YOU!!!

Yes, each mirror will (or at least should) show you different parts of the area behind you. You should use them all.

Of course you should use your mirrors. Unless of course you like driving with your eyes shut.
